The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has criticised Governor Ayodele Fayose and his aides for condemning former President Olusegun Obasanjo on behalf of the people of the state.
Fayose had condemned the five Peoples Democratic Party governors’ recent visit to Obasanjo as unwarranted, unnecessary and uncalled for, saying “nobody should be treated as being bigger than the party.”
He also called for the immediate suspension of Obasanjo from the PDP for alleged anti-party activities.
The state Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi, had also on Thursday called on a Federal High Court, Abuja, to sanction Obasanjo for allegedly violating its order restraining him from publishing or circulating his autobiography, “My Watch.”
But in a statement issued on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, the APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said Fayose and his aides could not criticise Obasanjo on behalf of Ekiti people, saying “they spoke in their individual capacity or at best on behalf of their party.”
According to him, Fayose is not qualified to speak on behalf of Ekiti people in a clearly political squabble by the PDP gladiators.
He maintained that Ajayi, who criticised Obasanjo on behalf of the state for not obeying a court order, was not known to law as the Attorney-General of the state because he was not screened and confirmed by a properly constituted House of Assembly.
“He (Ajayi) remains a commissioner-nominee until he is legally screened and confirmed by the assembly,” Olatunbosun added.
The APC spokesman warned that Fayose and his aides should not turn the PDP’s internal affair into a state affair, as that would be a misrepresentation of the good people of Ekiti State.
“If we agreed without conceding that he is an attorney-general, he is at best a busybody in the matter between Obasanjo and Buruji Kashamu concerning the launching of his book.
“What is the business of a state government in a matter between Obasanjo and Kashamu that warranted issuing a statement on behalf of the entire citizens of a state?
“The Ekiti APC dissociates the good people of Ekiti State from the statement issued by Ajayi calling for the imprisonment of Obasanjo for alleged contempt of court.
“A bed-wetter does not haggle with a dry cleaner. If anybody will criticise anyone for disobedience of court orders, it is not Ajayi who is a product of illegality and his principal a promoter of lawlessness.
“We wonder why Fayose should abandon urgent state matters for the defence of a man of …when the man has not even said anything!
“By his action, Fayose has turned Ekiti State into an enclave of men of shady characters. This is an unfortunate twist of fortune for a state reputed for its honour and integrity.
“It is an interesting irony that the people who represent an assault on the rule of law should be the ones accusing others of contempt of court. We respect elders in Ekiti.
“What Ajayi wrote of Obasanjo is not our collective view and we condemn it in strong terms. Ajayi and his principal cannot turn themselves to the interpreter of the law even though they are known to have an aversion for the rule of law.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

i would ve expected Gov Fayose and AG Ajayi to make such statement some 8yrs ago.
ReplyDeleteFayose has never been known to have respect for elders, if he thinks we Ekiti people will vote Jonathan because we voted him IN, then his dreaming and he should take opinion polls to know the fact on ground and not to promise Jonathan what he can't deliver our vote in Ekiti is for the yearning of all Nigerians for change.
ReplyDeleteTribalists you will not see all the problems Obasanjo is causing because he is your tribe's man you are now blaming someone for asking, OBJ be called to order. Does OBJ has respect for anybody that he should be respected? Should a man who deserves respect act in that manner? He is the one who should respect people b4 seeking respect. I am sure those asking for OBJ have not asked him whether he is seeking respect from anybody, cos a man like that should not expect respect. The problem of this nation is tribalism, it has its grand parents from west.
