Chief Donatus Nwankpa-led faction of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, has elected Chief Nyerere Anyim as its governorship flag bearer in the 2015 election.
The other faction led by Fabian Nwankwo told newsmen that it had applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission for time extension to conduct its own primaries, claiming to be the authentic leadership.
Anyim was elected unopposed by all delegates from the 17 councils in the state at the primaries held at Ojukwu Bunker Umuhaia.
Chairman of the election panel from the APC’s national secretariat, Joseph Umoru, who supervised the election described the exercise as peaceful and very successful.
Motion for Anyim’s adoption as the consensus candidate was moved by the Chairman of the party in Aba North, Chief Uba Omenazu , and seconded by his Ikwuano counterpart, Chief Benard Omerua.
In his acceptance speech, Ayim thanked the delegates for finding him worthy to fly the party’s flag at the poll, and promising to unite the party before the general elections.
He said he was prepared to put an end to the reign of the People’s Democratic Party in the state come 2015, while soliciting the continued support of the party faithful to ensure total victory at the polls. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
