More than 2000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party from Rivers State stormed the national headquarters of the party in Abuja to protest the alleged plan by the party and the Presidency to foist a former Minister of State(Education), Mr. Nyesom Wike on them as the party’s governorship candidate in the state.
The protesters also complained against perceived injustice meted out on them during the last saturday PDP House of Assembly primaries in the state.
The protesters were said to have started arriving the secretariat as early as 6:30am and took over the entire premises of the secretariat even before the arrival of its members of staff.
Various placards were carried with inscriptions such as “Wike can’t be our Governor”, “We want clearance to contest 2015 elections”, “Give us back our money”, “We are tired of a two-man state exco”, “Felix Obuh must go”, “Wike has bought the soul of River PDP”, “Criminals have been cleared to be PDP aspirants in River State”, among others.
They also sang different war songs as they clustered in front of the party secretariat.
Policemen, who were mobilised to the scene, looked with awe as the protesters erected a pavilion with which they blocked the entrance to the building.
The more than 70 policemen, were led by two assistant commissioners.
National Woman Leader of the party, Chief Kema Chikwe, who attempted to speak with the protesters around 1:47pm, was harassed and escorted out of the troubled zone by the police.

ReplyDeleteIf only you Vanguards of Rivers People would refuse to be bought over here in Abuja, then and only then would you salvage your oil-rich State from Jonathan's "Chief Political Thug" called Nyesom Wike.
ReplyDeleteAny mistake about it, hear my prediction for Rivers State from 2015: "Patience Jonathan would become the Substantive governor of your state while wike will be the stooge Governor Chibuike Amechi refused to be and entered the black book of the First Lady and incurred the wrath of Nebuchadnezzar Jonathan".
Watch your backs; this is Abuja where ghana-must-go is a tradition. Don't sell your Political Right to choose your leaders for a plate of monetary inducement; be guided by your consciences for posterity's sake.
