Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu on Wednesday called for the cancellation of the use of Permanent Voter Card for the 2015 general elections.
The governor believed the Independent National Electoral Commission had fallen short of expectations in the distribution of the PVC, a development, he noted, would disenfranchise a large percentage of the electorate in 2015.
Aliyu made the call in Minna while presenting the 2015 appropriation bill to the State House of Assembly.
He said the hitches encountered during the exercise would not allow a majority of eligible Nigerians to vote.
The governor noted that the exercise in the state, which began after two postponements, was conducted only in 11 of the 25 local government areas.
“Meanwhile, the Continuous Voter Registration, is also experiencing same fate as non-functional computers, unqualified and uncommitted personnel characterised the exercise with serious implications for the desired outcomes,” he said.
The governor, therefore, suggested the use of the old register and temporary voter card for the 2015 elections, adding that the PVC should be used for later elections. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
