President Goodluck Jonathan’s reelection bid received a major boost on Saturday, as businessmen, multinational organisations, interest groups and individuals donated the sum of N21.27bn to support his campaign for the 2015 presidential election.
The naira rain was at the Peoples Democratic Party Fund Raising Dinner held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The chairman of the occasion, Mr. Tunde Ayeni, set the ball rolling, when he announced a donation of N2bn.
He said the sum consisted of N1bn donated by him and his partner, and another N1bn contributed by their unnamed friends.
Players in the Oil and Gas sector announced a donation of N5bn; those in Real Estate and Building donated N4bn; Transport and Aviation, N1bn; Food and Agriculture, N500m; Power, N500m; Construction, N310m; Road Construction, N250m; National Automative Association, N450m; and Shelter Development Limited, N250m.
The Chairman of the fundraiser committee, Prof. Jerry Gana, said his friends and associates in the power sector were donating N5bn.
The PDP Governors Forum announced a total donation of N1.05billion.
The Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, who spoke on behalf of the PDP governors, said each 21 of them would donate N50m each.
The SIFAX Group announced N100m donation, while PDP stakeholders in Rivers State supported Jonathan’s bid with N50m.
The 15 states on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission donated a total of N15million, among other donations.
Several private individuals also gave donations.
Mr. Joseph Makanju, representative of the Chief Fund Raiser and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote said his principal, who was outside the country, did not leave a mandate.
He, however, promised that as soon as Dangote returned to the country, he would personally see the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Mu’Azu, to offer his support.
Makanju assured those at the event that his principal would justify his position as the Chief Fund Raiser with his donation.
Donation pledge forms were made available to guests at the event for personal donations.
Jonathan, in his remarks, described Saturday as a special day, due to the fundraiser. He thanked the donors, while assuring them that the funds would not be wasted or misused.
“I thank everyone who made donation tonight,” said Jonathan.
The President stated that the money was for the PDP, stressing that the amounted generated would help to run the PDP better. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Look at the set of people and organisations and the amonut they have donated. I reserve my comment ............umh I am afraid of the future of our country.
ReplyDeleteAgain what is the money for ........... umh to bribe and ...........
If does ppl can donate this type of money 4 election purpose and 4 their personal interest so that they can keep their office running but other are crying 4 survival every day and some public servant are yet to be paid
ReplyDeleteImagine! How l wish all these group can donate to reduce the suffering of Nigerians, after all these money are part of looted fund. Anyway how l wish uncle Jona can start distributing it now, because we need cash for chrismas. I employ all Nigerians to collect this cash from these people that are only interested in Mortgaging our future for pea-nut and vote for change GMB.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely rubish. This govt has taking us as fools!!!!!!!!!!!.
ReplyDeleteJona is as clueless as MUMU.
Power sector donate N5bn... God see us thru..
ReplyDeleteYour Power sector donated money to fund Goofluck's re election campaign.I pity most deprived and abused Nigerians who continue to suffer under irresponsible, highly corrupt and morally bankrupt cabals called PDP
ReplyDeleteWhy are we complaining? I am sure some of you complaining now are those insulting other genuine politicians and urging Jonathan should be re-elected. We know all these donations e coming from beneficiaries of his corrupt regime, we have not seen anything yet, let him just be re-elected that's when we will suffer the more.
ReplyDeleteNigeria!!! Haba! What kinds off pple are in this part of the world? In fact why is all these happening? Why do we refused to change or refuse a change?are we doomed? Can't we just reason or have a change of heart and do things differently? Now inflation is about to set in by the coming year nothing is been done presently to cushion dt effect. All this individuals donating this monies any sane man should know that they are all protecting their personal interest example if the Jerry ghana and co in power sector invests this 5bn to power won't we see the effect? Yet they chose to hand it over for election purpose damn! It is finished.
ReplyDeleteMark.
God bless u all 4 donating. My God will supply all ur needs according to his riches in glory. Amen
ReplyDeleteIt is so obvious this people in government are taking the masses for a ride! All that money for election?? Open bribery.. Why can't these individuals invest this money in infrastructure and give graduates jobs. The country is solely reliant on oil at the expense of grassroot development ..A total shame at how corruption has eaten into the DNA of our country Nigeria!!
ReplyDeleteMy brothers, have you those taking our money. They will get multiple return when the party is re elected. Our population is less than 200m why can't we use part of this money for social security, to give the unemployed N50000 monthly to keep them alive as done in civilized society. I have a neighbour sponsored by his mum who sells amala. The guy graduated without job.what do u think of his mother? You people are talking of billions, we know what amount to a billion.Chief Awolowo ones said in 1979 that if a man is given 1m he will leave for 50years to spend it without working. I had him during his campaign in Saki. You are talking of billions. Last time they were donating dollars.
ReplyDeleteGod is watching. Power sector 500 million, and we are still in darkness. Construction companies and transport sector also donating for substandard roads. All these donors only wanna cover their tracks. That's why they don't want GMB, cos he will make sure they vomit all the stolen money. My only sadness is that we are either blind or pretend to be blind. The only weapon we have now is our vote. Let's join hands and tell them that we re not blind by voting them out. Chima Onyebuchi.
ReplyDeleteSo after all these donations, and these kind of people in support, you are still thinking GEJ wont return? Well you better rethink!
ReplyDeleteMy heart bleeds for this nation call nigeria.
ReplyDeleteI can't but weep when I drive through roads in Europe and America. We are in the Stone Age in Nigeria and we all caused it. Corruption, greed and pride has put all us where we are. I tell you, Texas is just a little bit smaller than the whole of Nigeria and you can't just compare. We cannot continue this way. We need good leaders and progressive thinking youths to change our lands. Billions of Naira will a provide at least good jobs for 100 youths worst case scenario. We are suffering and they seem not to care! They bring sorrows, tears and blood!
ReplyDeleteThe issue is that the opposition has not given us something better than what we already have. I'll rather have GEJ than GMB. I would have preferred something different from GEJ,but Buhari is not that difference I would have preferred..... Anyway our votes will speak.... very soon.
Delete@anonymous 11.34pm. I sense he disappointment at GEJ and appreciate the fact that GMB appears not different. Let's pray to lead us aright. We are in crisis but God will see us through. I respect your vote and your decision and I will never influence it!
