The Nigerian Prisons Service has recaptured 108 inmates out of 275 prisoners, who escaped during a jailbreak from the Medium Security Prisons in Minna, Niger State on Saturday.
The Controller-General of Prisons, Dr. Peter Ekpendu, made the disclosure in a statement by the Prisons’ spokesperson, Mr. Ope Fatinikun.
The inmates were recaptured through the combined efforts of military, security and intelligence agencies, and cooperation of surrounding communities.
Assuring Nigerians that a search party comprising the Army, Department of State Services, DSS, Police and Prisons was still conducting investigation and searching neighbouring states, Ekpendu said the incident was not a terrorist attack, but a jailbreak.
The prisons boss appealed to communities and neighbouring states of Kwara, Kaduna, Kebbi and the FCT to be vigilant and watch out for any suspicious movement around and report to the nearest police stations or prison formations.
