We will reclaim captured territories from Boko Haram - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said his government was determined to liberate all territories presently occupied by the Islamic militant group, Boko Haram.

Jonathan made this comment through his representative, Mohammed Wakil, in Maiduguri during the commencement of the Presidential Initiative for the North East.

He said the Federal Government would deploy all necessary resources to liberate all territories occupied by Boko Haram insurgents.

Re-echoing the words of the Chief of Army Staff, the President declared that the armed forces was mobilising human and material resources to reclaim lost territories and working on plans for the rehabilitation, reconstruction and redevelopment of the insurgency-ravaged North East region.

He added that his administration was determined to tackle and defeat the insurgency at all cost, noting that the Federal Government’s agenda for the North East extends beyond ongoing military actions to measures designed to provide short, medium and long term solutions to the overall challenges facing the region.

He listed non- military interventions to include the Presidential Initiatives for the North East headed by the National Security Adviser; the Presidential Committee on the Distribution of Relief Materials headed by the NEMA Director General, Mallam Sani Sidi; Victims Support Fund chaired by former Defence Minister, Lt General T.Y.Danjuma ; and Safe School Initiative coordinated by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Okonjo Iweala.

  1. Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with this our so called president. Is it hallucination or what? Please Mr. Jonathan, leave that matter and tell us something else. Maybe you tell us about APC, and 2015 general elections cos that's the only thing you are conversant with. Please stop talking about Boko Haram cos you are even making them appear important. You have failed in that area. until you accept it, the entire nation will continue to go down the drain. Is it money, you have not for security, the only thing is that you continue to do the same thing and expecting different result, and that's the definition of madness. Please tell people you are not mad by employing a more effective and efficient strategy. I wish you luck in your 2015 (inordinate) ambition.

  3. This is the same response we get each time something is reported in the media, the president responds like that's what expected. Until date the so-called kidnapped girls have not been found. It's all propaganda. This administration needs to give way. Don't know why he's not impeached until now. If the president wins re-election then there's something wrong in Nigeria absolutely.

  5. IF YOU TALK NOW, SOUTH SOUTH PEOPLE WILL NEVER ALLOWED YOU TO TALK. THEY HAVE TURNED THE PRESIDENT TO THEIR PERSONAL PEOPERTY THAT MUST NOT BE TOUCHED EVEN WHEN THINGS ARE FALLING APART. EVEN A BLIND, DEAF AND DUMB MAN CAN FEEL THE IMPACT OF THE NEGATIVE STATE OF THE NATION. WHOEVER AND WHATEVER IS RESPONSIBLE(APC OR WHATEVER), THE BULK LIES ON THE NUMBER ONE MAN'S TABLE. IF THE SS MAN CAN'T STANDS THE HEAT, HE SHOULD GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN. I THINK NEGERIANS SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTIVE IN THEIR COMMENTS. WHOEVER THAT IS THE PRESIDO(YORUBA, HAUSA, IGBO, ETC), IF NOT PERFORMING, SHOULD BE CRITICISED. NIGERIA IS BIGGER THAN ANY INDIVIDUAL OR TRIBE OR GEO-POLITICAL ZONE.
