Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the United Progressives Party, UPP, has said that its presidential candidate and the running mate would emerge on Thursday December 11, 2014.
National Chairman of UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie, who disclosed this yesterday, said that the presidential candidate of the party had been zoned to the South East geo-political zone.
Chief Okorie said though several qualified contenders were already jostling for the ticket of the party, acceptable candidate would eventually emerge out of the many aspirants to clinch the presidential ticket.
The former founding father of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, assured that all aspirants for various elective political offices on the platform of the party, would be given a level-playing field.
He said “I want to tell you here that on December 11, the UPP presidential candidate will emerge after our National Convention in Aba, Abia State. The running mate to our presidential candidate will also be named there on that day.
“We have aspirants who are contending for the Presidential ticket of the party and one of them will certainly emerge. The candidate must come from the South-East where our party has zoned it’s presidential slot for this 2015 elections.”
“I want to use this opportunity to make it very clear once again that the UPP is sticking to earlier commitment to zone the presidential ticket of our party to the South-East. The UPP as credible progressive political organisation, is not considering any form of merger with any political party. As matter of party policy, we do not believe in pre-election merger.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
