THROWBACK: Jonathan’s promise on power 4 years ago

Speaking with United Nations diplomats on Monday, 31st January 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Goodluck Jonathan made this promise:

“If I’m voted into power, within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make a significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything…”

About four years after, the promise is yet to be fulfilled. Be the judge…

    1. NO! He should leave with his HEAD with BOKO HARAM. Bros has done far better than the regimes of OBJ 1976, SHAGARI 1996, BURARI/DIAGBON 1983, BABANGIDA 1985, ABACHA 1992, OBJ 1999 put together. If U doubt me check out the history of NIGERIA DEVELOPMENT.
      I REST MY CASE.

    2. The issue here is about power that nobody compelled him to promise and not who did better between Jonathan, Buhari or Shagari. That is an issue for another day.

    3. Your Northern Brodas called for removal of Ihejirika when he was at the verge of wiping out Boko haram.......Your problem as a Northerner is not even the Boko Haram, your problem is just to make sure a Northerner becomes the next President of Nigeria forgetting that Northerners have been on that seat for over 30 yrs without having anything to account for........Everyone of you expects GEJ to clean the mess you guys have done in the past within his 4 yrs in the office not knowing he can't fix it immediately......The more your quest is to remove GEJ,the more you realized there won't be the name Nigeria again

    4. This is a golden opportunity for Nigerians to take control of their destiny once and totally by facing reality.PDP was better under Obasanjo but has been turned into association of heartless cabals, rogues and thieving morally bankrupt devils disguised as big boys taking everybody for a ride by causing nationwide poverty, suffering and illiteracy of majority of the citizenry. If you guys fail to take your future in your hand like other citizens of corruption hated citizens of countries like Thailand and latest Burkina Faso,I am afraid PDP would replace their stomach infrastructure with grave infrastructure where the death rate in Nigeria would surpass the present Ebola surge if you allow them to rig next year election. The choice is yours to take. Most of the cabals surrounding Jonathan prefers him because they see him as a weakling, clueless and a sitting duck they could push around,so they prefer him and would defend rigging the election to get him back to the post.To them he his the devil they know which is better than the angel that might replace him

  9. Your brothers are the ones sabotaging all his efforts. They felt that they will ve out of business if nigeria has steady power supply - they are the ones importing fuel, selling generators etc, they are they ones destroying some if the power facilities. What do you what from GEJ all you morons??

    ReplyDelete
  10. The answer is that the northern satanic oligarchy are the ones sabotaging GEJ efforts. Even with that, Jonathan has increased the Mega watts, gave so called north Almajiri schools what all northern leaders combine couldn't do, he gave north federal universities, top federal appointments but yet the hatred is there becos GEJ is a christian. I tell you the truth if Buhari comes into power it will be the worst the Niger Delta will cripple Nigerian Economy. Nigeria solely depend on oil rent no more. It is a dangerous game, Nigeria is obviously polarised. Buhari can't survive the heat, those who bleed Nigeria will harm him. But my prayer is that any man that will be the architect of civil war or violence in Nigeria God will destroy him or them. What we need is peace not not some sort of utopian sanctimonious anti graft war.

Dont bring in religious or ethnic sentiments here. Please be objective. A promise is made to the entire electorate and was not kept, he failed in that area, accept it full stop. Stop being parochial

    3. L.O OTOBO.
Most Nigerians speak base on interest from what they gets or what they are expecting to get from the radical APC Politicians promising them. This Country was once rotting to the ground by GEJ Predecessors and now GEJ has come to revamp it to an appreciable level irrespective of all the security challenges promise by the ex- heads of state failures to make his Government ungovernable. I am surprise people still went further to criticizes GEJ. PLEASE, PLEASE ENOUGH IS ENOUGH , DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY POLITICAL HOODLUMS, FOR THE Y HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER. GEJ worth a second Tenure for He has done enough.

  11. Who says Jonathan has not improved power? Anyone saying that is indeed blind. In many parts of Nigeria today there can be uninterrupted power supply for upwards of 3 days or more, something we never saw under past administrations. The power reforms may be blurred only under APC microscope, not in reality.

  12. So we should vote for GEJ to continue like this? How can few or an individual be more than Govt? Let me tell u that no importation of ammunition without the knowledge of commander-in-chief, no plane flies without the knowledge of aviation ministry. So tell me who are Boko Haram? GEJ cannot use BH issue as an excuse and ask for second or third tenure for us to remain in this mess. The only excuse is that he has failed and we cannot waste our vote again. Be wise! Religion should be last factor to consider in selecting leader.

    1. You are spot on. I totally agree with you. GEJ and PDP know that they have not done anything, that is why they are making it impossible for any other person to pick the PDP Presidential Nomination form. Where has this ever been done. Well looks like they (The Presidency and PDP) are holding Nigerians to ransom. Please let us vote visely.

    2. U are absolutely right! We all knew that challenges were there before we voted him into power and Jonathan saw those challenges there before promises were made; else he should not have opted to be in that position.
If Jonathan claims to have been sabotaged; and that's why he couldn't keep his words, then lets ask this question: "Is it the next four years that will be void of sabotage?" Anti-govt will always be there. No govt exists without opposition, but every govt puts machinery in place to deliver for his pple and suppress the power of anti-govt and opposition.
The truth is that Jonathan's govt has failed and he has no biz staying in power. At least, we have seen his best but his best isn't good enough. WE HIRE HIM, AND NOW WE DECLARE HIM FIRED! GEJ return back to UNIPORT or OTUOKE. Thanks

  16. Yes,we recognise the fact that he made the promise in 2011,he probably did not envisage that that Boko haram menace will be as consistent as it has been. If we take a very neutral glance at all that has happened within the past four years and the fact that someone promised that he will make the country ungovernable, a promise that has been apparently sustained and fulfilled. The fact that an important number of people believe in the veracity of this threat. Now GEJ has had great difficulty in governing the country, hence his inability to deliver some of his promises. Going by the fact that the northern elders are of the conviction that the south has had their turn,& now they should have theirs. Turbulence from the north was one of the impediments experienced by the present government, how sure are we that the south will let the next government, if it comes from the north as vehemently requested by the north,to have a peaceful tenure? Especially when the major source of national income lies underneath their territories. I think some are selfishly thinking it's only them that has got brains,it also only them that can unleash terror,it's only them that has the right to rule. Even if they're the majority, the minority will become very dangerous if they're ignored. IF WE ARE TO GO AWAY FROM GEJ,OUR BEST BET IS NOT TO BRING BACK THE OLD PEOPLE WHO ALSO COULD NOT DELIVER IN THE PAST LIKE BUHARI AND ATIKU,IF WE REALLY DESIRE CHANGE, IT MUST START BY CHANGING ENTIRELY THE OLD PEOPLE. THAT'S WHAT RAWLINGS DID TO BRING CHANGE TO GHANA. IF THE HEADS OF ALL THESE OLD TIME POWER MONGERS DO NOT ROLL,OUR OPPORTUNITIES TO GOOD LEADERSHIP WILL REMAIN A DREAM THAT MAY NEVER COME TRUE.

  18. It's good for us Nigerians, we know all our so-called leaders are inept and corrupt yet we, out of ethnic sentiments keep shouting songs of praises to them. So, let there be no light!!!, let's vote them in again, come on guys.

  19. I really can't understand the person saying electricity has improved. Can you imagine he is not even using himself as example but other people who told him. Na was o. All these sentiments won't get us anywhere o.
As for me, there is NO WAY I will be caught voting for GEJ next year. I didn't vote for him before and I will not vote for him again.
We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect change to happen now. The man GEJ simply does not have what it takes to lead Nigeria. If it is by force a SS person must be the president, then let them please bring forward a better candidate. Shebi Donald Duke is there,Akpabio is there or we can even do SE sef present ex Gov Obi.This BEG....sorry GEJ does not cut it at all

  20. If it can be done in Ekiti, we all can oust an incumbent at the Federal level. Though the reason for why it was done in Ekiti is incomprehensible, we can do it for the right reason to achieve same result. Oppositions should please form "voltron" and give us 1 "credible candidate" as an alternative. Otherwise our scattered votes (what could easily be a landslide defeat of sitting "Royal Shoeless and cronies") will be divided amongst our "preferred" parties. It's the only chance we have.

  22. Now we realize what complacency can cause. A Yoruba adage says and literally translated as follows "if a member of your household eats poisonous item and you pretended not to be concerned, the consequential disturbance will not allow you to have rest at the midnight". 2015 general election provided Nigerians with another opportunity to be objective in our choice of who leads us. If we felt unconcerned, then we should expect sleeplessness for another 48 months. You have been warned.

  23. Shame on u all. Speak the truth and Nigeria will be better than USA & Europe. From 1976 till date and even our before the civil, just name one person on power that has something good for Nigeria. None. The truth is that we should stand as one and say no to corruption, then we can say let u the cap fits wear. It does not matter if he is from the North or south.

We should all wake up and stop been myopic. Nigeria is one!!!!!
