Kano Pillars win Nigerian Premier League for the third consecutive time

Kano Pillars on Sunday emerged winner of the Nigeria Premier League 2013/2014 season. Their victory this season makes it three times in a row that Pillars have emerged league champions.

The Kano-based club secured this season’s victory after thrashing already relegated Nembe City 4-0; while fellow title chasers, Enyimba and Warri Wolves, failed to get the desired results in their respective games against Dolphins FC and Gombe United.

Enyimba and Warri Wolves played out disappointing 1-1 draws in their matches thus handing the trophy to Pillars even before the last set of matches to be played next weekend.

The victory for Pillars took their points tally to an unassailable 65 points while Enyimba has 61 points and Warri Wolves 60.

With the League triumph, Pillars are confirmed to represent Nigeria at next season’s CAF Champions League while they wait for who will finish in second place to secure the other ticket.

Meanwhile, as Pillars celebrate their League win, another milestone was reached in Port Harcourt as Enyimba striker, Mfon Udoh, became the first player to score 21 goals in a season.

Before this season, the previous record of 20 goals was held by Jude Aneke who was then with Kaduna United three seasons ago.
