JTF rescues minister’s sister in Rivers

The Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, says its troops have rescued a sister of serving Nigeria minister from her kidnappers.

Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, Lt.-Col. Mustapha Anka, said on Tuesday that the victim, Mrs Osiyo Agama, was abducted on October 22.

He said Agama was whisked away in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on her way to church service.

Anka said, “The victim was successfully rescued from the kidnappers’ den at Buguma forest in Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State recently.

“The feat was achieved through a joint military operation conducted in conjuction with the Department of State Security, Rivers command, which lasted for seven days.

“During the period, there was resistance from the kidnappers that led to an exchange of fire.”

The JTF spokesperson said the rescued victim was handed over to the outfit’s commander, Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Atewe, by the Commanding Officer of 130 Battalion, who led the operation at about 8.00pm at the Buguma water front.

He said Atewe had handed the victim over to the DSS for onward reunion with her family.

Atewe was quoted as commending the troops for their bravery and gallantry.

Atewe said, “I commend you for the bravery which led to the rescue of the kidnapped victim.”

He warned kidnappers, sea robbers and criminals operating in the Niger Delta and its environs to look for a legitimate job or risk being crushed. “We will continue the onslaught against criminality in this region,” he said.
