The All Progressives Congress has described as "utterly insensitive and absolutely callous" the decision by President Goodluck Jonathan to declare his second term ambition a day after almost 50 students were killed and about 80 injured in a suicide bombing in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The party in a statement on Tuesday, accused the President of "dancing on the graves of the students" as well as of all the victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
"Since this President has chosen to celebrate a national tragedy, Nigerians should also be ready to celebrate his electoral failure next year," the party said the statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
"Today, the three North-East states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe are in danger of being overrun by Boko Haram and over 650,000 Nigerians are internally displaced in those states by the insurgency. Yet, President Jonathan says he puts Nigerians first. Lies have never worn a bolder face. The truth is that for President Jonathan, it is Jonathan first, Jonathan second, Jonathan third, Jonathan always!"
The opposition party added that with the latest "act of blatant hard-heartedness, Jonathan was only continuing along his well-trodden path of acting without deep introspection.
"When about 60 students were killed in the terror attack on the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, in February 2014, President Jonathan never visited the scene to commiserate with the families of the victims.
When over 80 people were killed in the first Nyanya bombing in April 2014, President Jonathan went dancing 'Azonto' in Kano less than 48 hours later. And when almost 300 girls were freshly abducted in Chibok, President Jonathan neither acted fast enough to rescue the girls nor visited the village.
His Administration even denied anyone was abducted, until 19 days after!
"This President has therefore established a pattern of putting his political interest above the security and welfare of Nigerians who voted him into office.
This President has trampled upon the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which makes the security and welfare of the citizenry the raison d'etre of the government's existence.
"It is time for Nigerians to respond in kind by trampling on his political ambition and sending him back to Otuoke."
The party queried the logic behind the Safe Schools Initiative of the Federal Government when over 70 students were killed and more than 100 maimed within a week in two separate attacks targetting a religious procession and schools in Potiskum alone.
"The Safe Schools Initiative will remain a mere tokenism until the fundamental problem of insurgency, which has claimed thousands of lives, is conclusively addressed. Mr. President, what Nigerians want is not an isolated Safe Schools Initiative, but a Safe Nigeria Initiative," it added. It really means APC are the people behind this numerous killings in Nigerian just to discredit GEJ govt.....You knew he is declaring today and you went and killed innocent people yesterday to know if he will still go on to declare or not..........Your killings can never stop any activities in Nig from going on.....And if you think your numerous attacks on innocent life's and properties will make GEJ not to contest, you are making a very big mistake, you guys better Re-strategize bcos your plans are not gonna yield any fruit other than destabilizing the country
ReplyDeleteAPC And PDP Both have no national interest they, have both politicise every national issue. The two party are consistently looking for each others pit fall so as to win the sympathy of gullible masses. In civilise clime, both parties will bury their hatchet and then look for common way of proffering lasting solution to this scourge. Opposition is meant to be a watch dog and not a rabid dog spreading rabies. Nigerians are the enemies of themselves, its unfortunate that even the so called Northern elders have never been useful to their region, they are all bunch of sadistic old men who only care about their immediate family. This is a national issue and not a party issue or individual. All hands must be on deck.
ReplyDeleteI am now well convinced that APC are behind Terrorism in this country....They knew GEJ is declaring today and killed Innocent Children yesterday just to discredit his declaration.....You are just fooling yourselves and your supporters and not the entire Nigerians....Shame on you idiots power mongers
ReplyDeleteWhy should you kill more than 50 students just to disrupt the declaration of his second term ambition? You make us understand that Boko Haram is politics . You guys should stop politicizing people's pains. Playing politics with human lives. God forbid!
ReplyDeleteThis APC! Because some people failed to train their children aho have now turned to BH, every other person in Nigeria should not live again. Dem de talk as if dem no sleep with thier wives since BH palaver start! Oga Jona carry on good people of Naija de behind you.
ReplyDeleteThe president that celebrates the death of his subjects. We never had it this bad. GEJ carry go make we see. The bad people of naija de behind you.
ReplyDeleteUSELESS APC. UP GEJ.
ReplyDeleteAPC did not bomb innocent children when their oga buhari and atiku and kwakwanso were declaring but they did when it was GEJ s turn. APC is just like ISIS so everyone must rise against it
ReplyDeleteWAO! It is now becoming clear the people behind all these bombs and their real intentions. Before the president and PDP visit in Kano there was nyanya a bomb blast. Now before his declaration there was bomb blast. Then somebody will now come and tell us that the president is callous for going ahead. Which means on those two occasions, the intention was to stop him from going ahead.
ReplyDeleteAm also scared of the precedent of throwing bombs for any govt some lawless persons feel they don't want in power. And if we Nigerians vote the person out, it means that such strategy will be deemed to be successfull ad others will continue on that path too. Consequently, am calling on all Nigerians to vote and return jona to aso rock so as to prove to the bomb blasters that the strategy will not work in Nigeria.
@ everfrank, what's ur take? Maybe GEJ should not declare again. Maybe if there is bomb blast on 13th Feb 2015 d election should be shifted indefinetly and Jona go still be President. Then u guys will say he want to remain in power. Lai Mohammed is just a propagandist not a critic. Have u read the critism of sheik Gunmi? Then u will know the difference btw a critic and a propagandist. The sheik was very objective in his critism of the govt and it's activities
ReplyDeleteEvery time GEJ and PDP want to organise importance programme in thios country there is bomblast prior the day of the occassion and APC will come up with obnorcious statement that PDP is celebrating the dead of the victim on the blast, but APC Presidential asparants all declared their none sense in this country and there was no bomb last or accusation from PDP. IT IS NOW CLEAR THAT APC YOU HAVE HAND IN TERRORISM in Nigeria. We will vote GEJ BACK TO POWER COME 2015.
ReplyDeleteKudos to Nigerians' with brain, we can no longer be fool for any political vampire assaign in this country, they should tell ALL APC aspirants' to get life for themselves, because all their destractions is not going to work but rather they will all fail woefully and Nigeria must move forward no matter how long they turn the hand clock of Nigeria backward, God must surely intervain and whoever is the enemy of Nigeria among all the political parties before 2015 God Almighty, the one that can kill and make alive will silence them to the grave, amen.
ReplyDeleteAPC should know by now that arranging a carnage to stop GEJ has never worked. Why not change to a more civilized method that befits the 21st century. The military style you are using to try to seize power will only serve to make more Nigerians to sympathise with the same person you want them to hate and vote out of power. Just check out the comments above and see how low the credibility of the APC has dropped. APC, your childish, brutal, and militant politics is not working. This is time to go back to the drawing board and seriously consider a change in strategy. You still have about 3 months to prove to intelligent Nigerians that you are not just a bunch of brutes. The clock is thicking and you are losing this game fast.
ReplyDeleteIt is obvious dat there is only one anonymous commenting time & time again just to make his view look like it is shared by a majority! Mr. ANONYMOUS u will remain anonymous even in your life & sphere of influence since u don't want the best for your country..dat's y u can't even attach a name to yourself!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I am concerned..u don't exist, mayb u are not even a Nigerian! Criminal with no identity.
If u lik post as much as u lik..nobody be fool.
Obinna O
You are just right. Some of these comments evidenced the extent of the polarisation of Nigeria along religious and ethnic divide. How can anyone continue to ascribe incompetence or (is it impotency) to opposition parties? The crux of the matter is the imposition of unprepared individuals in leadership positions. Nigerians shine your eyes and secure our collective future effective 2015.
DeleteThis party called APC or Lai sth...Must you insult the president to gain publicity. Can't you campaign without refferring to Mr President? Now I know you have nothing to offer but to discredit Mr president.
