FRSC orders removal of extra headlights from vehicles

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has ordered drivers in Kogi to remove the extra headlights on their vehicles or face prosecution.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in the State, Godwin Omiko, told journalists in Lokoja on Sunday that owners should also affix reflective tapes on their vehicles.
Mr. Omiko said this had become necessary in order to improve the visibility of drivers especially in the nights.
He said the use of extra lights at night was largely responsible for the increase in night fatalities, adding that FRSC will not be lenient with any motorist that violated the order.
The official said the recent “ember months’’ campaign was yielding results, adding that it will be sustained till January 2015.
In line with the 2014 target of the FRSC, he said, the command had achieved well over 15 per cent reduction in the number of vehicle crashes but that the fatality rate had increased.
“From our records, 222 vehicle crashes, 264 deaths and 959 injuries were recorded from January to October as against 465 crashes, 256 deaths and 1,545 injuries in 2013.
“This represents 52 per cent reduction in number of crashes, 3.1 per cent increase in fatality and 38 per cent reduction in number of the injured”, he said.
