Part-time students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, on Monday protested against increment in school fees from N9,000 to N34,000.
The students were aggrieved that the Rector, Mrs. Theresa Taiwo Akande, did not fulfill the promise she made during her meeting with the Students Representatives that the school fees will be increased only at four years interval.
The students carried placards with various inscriptions including “We ain’t money making machine,” “Reduce our school fees,” and “Bring down our fees”.
It was gathered that one of the students representatives had sent a letter to the Rector to caution against the increment which she did not reply to.
Following the protest, the management shut the school indefinitely.
Reacting, the Deputy Registrar (Information), Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu, confirmed to journalists that the school had been shut.
He said, “They are not our regular students but part time students just resuming.
“They are not supposed to be part of any union. There is peace in the school already but it has been shut down. The management is talking with them.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
