The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has criticised Governor Ayodele Fayose for the increase in the wave of insecurity, especially armed robberies, in the state.
A statement by the State Publicity Secretary of APC, Taiwo Olatubosun, said the state had witnessed increased crimes since Fayose assumed office because he had cut security votes to the law enforcement agencies.
The party cited two violent armed robbery attacks on a first generation bank in Ifaki and Ikere recently where customers lost fortunes and several residents were fatally wounded.
The APC alleged, “We have it on good authority that the governor has cut by half, security votes to the Police, Army, DSS and Civil Defence that are responsible for the security maintenance of the state.
“Security vote is not for the personal use of the governor and we now wonder what the governor is spending the security vote on with the cut in the votes to these security agencies.
“When you don’t have good equipment and the ones you have cannot be maintained, then you expose the security agents to risks of attacks by criminals. The criminals are also emboldened to ply their trade. That is why you have armed robbers writing letters to the banks on Monday that they would visit Ekiti State for robbery operations on
Wednesday that led to the banks closing their shops to the public investors, who are now leaving the state in droves because their investment could not be guaranteed.”
Olatunbosun recalled that the governor had not kept to his inauguration promise to provide adequate security.
He asked the governor to concentrate his energy on providing Ekiti people with adequate security instead of pursuing perceived political enemies with the state’s instruments of coercion that are better deployed to stamp out criminals and their activities in the state. Does APC thought we Ekiti people are fools?how many month has Fayose become the gov?is it every month security operatives buy weapons that they don't have weapon to fight again?how many allocations and security votes has he collected?same thing happened in Ondo state today,Bank could not opened to customers,so y ApC keep lying and deceiving our people with frivolous allegations?this can never help APC rather stooping Dem lower Dan expectation,APC cannot rise anymore in Ekiti.Fayose is not up to a month in govt and u be started making allegations,so this shows that nothing was done during your tenure in govt because you have equiped the security personnel in the state up till now,but there is nothing of such,so don't cover ur weakness.
