Another Military Helicopter Crashes in Adamawa State

Just a few days after a military helicopter crashed in the Damare area of Adamawa State, another one has crashed in Yola.

The latest crash occurred late yesterday night, according to Premium Times.

Multiple sources in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, revealed on Thursday night that another military helicopter crashed around 9 p.m Thursday around the surroundings of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology‎ [MAUTECH] in Girei Local Government Area of the state.

“It is true a helicopter just crashed near MAUTECH at around 9:30 pm. There were actually two of them flying beside each other and when one crashed, the other one turned back,” said a Yola resident who simply gave his name as Dan Asabe.

A student of MAUTECH, Abdulrahman Shehu, stated that he saw the helicopter go down.

Mr. Shehu said Thursday night, “We came out of our hostel when we heard the sound of choppers and noticed that there were two of them flying in the dark without lights on.

“Suddenly one of them went down and exploded with a deafening sound. Immediately that happened the other one turned back and left. Obviously there were explosives inside the chopper because intermittent explosions followed the fall of the helicopter creating a huge fire blast.

“Even as we speak, you can see the huge fire blazing from our hostel, although the explosions have abated a little.

“Another chopper ‎came but could not land near the fallen chopper and Soldiers have already come with ambulances and headed to the crash site which is not more than two kilometres from our school.”

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force, Dele Alonge, an Air Commodore, confirmed the incident, but said details were still sketchy.

“Once we get all the facts, we will come out with a release on the incident,” Mr. Alonge said. “But one thing is clear, the helicopter did not come under enemy fire. It has nothing to do with the enemy.”
Another chopper on surveillance mission had on Monday crashed at Damare also in Girei Local Government.

The defence Headquarters later confirmed the crash saying however that no one died in the incident.
News of the latest helicopter crash came about two months after a Nigerian Air Force fighter jet, went missing during routine operations in the northern part of Adamawa State.

The Nigerian Air Force aircraft went missing on September 12.

The aircraft, an Alpha Jet (NAF 466) was involved in the counter insurgency operation against the extremist Boko Haram sect.

The whereabouts of the missing Alpha Jet had become a subject of conjectures following the inability of the Nigeria Air Force to tell Nigerians what actually happened to the fighter jet.

Boko Haram insurgents later claimed shooting the aircraft down in a video in which they appeared to slaughter one of the pilots of the missing jet.

But last week, local fishermen claimed they found wreckages of the jet in the River Benue.
The fishermen said they found the aircraft at Kwa Ine Village, Demsa Local Government, about 50 kilometers away from Yola, the Adamawa state capital.

  1. Lie upon lie.

Can we say the helicopters are outdated or not maintained or human error?

The current security challenge has exposed our level of unpreparedness and incapability to face external aggression. We need to be sincere and objective. Hopefully we would learn our lesson.

  3. This is nothing but internal sabotage within military a lot of Boko Haram members and sympathisers are within the Airforce and indeed entire military. They are the ones frustrating the efforts of the govt and other none BK sympathisers. If an Army General could force soldiers under his command to BokoHaram ambush and all the soldiers were ambushed and killed. And nothing was done to that Commander, rather he was retired with full benefits. While as demonstration by the colleagues of the ambushed and killed soldiers who were angry by the action of this Commander (general) who aided Boko Haram to kill Nigerian soldiers earned them death sentence by court marshal. But the General who is responsible for deaths of so many soldiers is now enjoying his retirement with his family while his remaining victims are facing firing squad. Tell me why many muslims especially the BK haram sympathisers will not join this General to do same? This is major problem facing battle against insurgency. Many of BK are in APC, PDP, and Govt. The ones in PDP and Govt are machineries used to deceive and manipulate the Presidency and govt to favor Boko Haram and their sponsors. These guys are APC men within PDP. Yes they are still there despite the move of some out of PDP. They are the ones who tell govt to back down whenever it seems the war against BK is being worn by military, they will quickly rush to GEJ and advise him to give amnesty and go into negotiation with BK. This is to reduce military action against BK, to give BK time to re-enforce again. This is what we have seen severally many times, when the military was about defeating BokoHaram some people will start calling for negotiation and amnesty. As soon as govt/military stops or slows down action against Bokoharam, Bokoharam will quickly re-enforce and spread their men to larger area while using their agents around govt and muslim community to engage and keep the govt busy. When they have completely re-inforced and spread, surprise attacks in areas that had not previously would seen many new fronts by BK. Thereby taking military who had been ordered to lay down arms unaware. Personally, i don not trust some of these service chiefs, the Badeh of a man and they airforce chief. The way military crafts are brought down calls for the sack of these guys. This war seems to have backing of majority of high class muslim populace in the north and west. Sorry for some top christians from North and south who can not read the hand writing in the wall, instead are joining force with these islamists to pull down the govt for Islamists (BK sponsors) to take over. Christians and non fanatic muslims are targeted and killed, churches no mosques are burnt down. Yet people are saying is not Jihad. Why blame GEJ for Jihad by Bokoharam? Can we blame christians in Iraq, and Syria for ISIL islamism and jihad unleashed against the populace their? the answer is no. Open your eyes, this is anti-christ tribulation going on.
