The Commander General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin says some officials of the corps have been trained to tackle Boko Haram insurgency, vandalism, and other crimes in the country.
Abolurin, who was represented by the Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Ikemefuna Donatus, said this during the passing out parade of men of the corps trained by the Nigerian Army at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing Training School in the Badagry area of the State.
The CG said the trainees were taken through the rudiments of arms bearing, stripling and assembling of rifles, adding that the officials had been physically drilled to engage in unarmed combat in the course of the training exercise which lasted for five weeks.
He said, “We are witnesses to the security challenges confronting us presently as a nation. Such insurgency and other violent crimes are common place in countries across the world and this has thrown up the issue of training and being equipped professionally to surmount such security challenges. The event of today would not have come at a better time than this.
Abolurin appreciated the efforts of the Nigerian Army in ensuring that the operatives of the corps were given adequate training and implored all the security agencies to work in partnership with one another and avoid unhealthy competition.
