A 35- year-old teacher, Bright Asiruwa, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling an 11- year-old pupil.
The convict was a teacher to the pupil at Osazuwa Primary School, Ehor, the administrative headquarters of Uhunmwode local government area of Edo State.
He was convicted by an Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City.
The incident occurred in 2007 but hearing on the matter commenced at an Abudu High Court in 2008 before it was transferred to Benin City.
Justice G. O. Imadegbelo found the teacher guilty of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The elder brother of the victim, Engr. Zini Braima, applauded the judgment, saying that all the family wanted was justice.

The teacher should be allowed access to a lawyer.
