After months of speculation and denial, the speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for main opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr. Tambuwal formally announced his defection Tuesday at the House plenary. He is required by law to declare formally to his colleague lawmakers.
The speaker, for months, denied he was moving to the APC despite openly associating with the party.
The clearest indication he had joined the party came more than a week ago when he attended a meeting of the opposition party in Sokoto State.
He said the state governor, Aliyu Wammako, had invited him for the meeting after he was snubbed by a visiting PDP delegation to the state, led by Tony Anenih, the Board of Trustees chairman.
Mr. Tambuwal is expected to contest for the governorship of his native Sokoto State.
His months of denial is believed to have been informed by his concerns about losing his position as the speaker.
Shortly after the declaration Tuesday, Mr. Tambuwal adjourned sitting of the lower house of parliament to December 3. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

If Tambuwal had denied that he wasn't joining APC and now had joined APC the same party he once denied. We should now see the type of leader Tambuwal his. Some people lack integrity, honesty and the fear of God. And this is the same person who always say Isha alla. May Alla 4give u Tambuwal. Sokoto state citizens shine your eyes ooooo. From Murphy.
ReplyDeleteNo idealogy beyond getting money and power.
ReplyDeleteTrue talk my Broda
DeleteHe is exercising his constitutional right of freedom of association as well as the PREFERRED PARTY- APC.
DeleteIs there any different ideology in that clueless and fraudulent pdp where he has been all this while? Any way, most of you have eyes but cannot see especially the current wave of change in the Nigeria air space.
Deleteits even better dat he left pdp.a clueless leader dat culdnt coordinate his fellow house.a thief in pdp but a saint in apc.useless and clueless APC party wit stupid and greedy ideology.
ReplyDeleteTambuwal's decision is correct.pdp is sinking bcos of d jonah on board. PatiEnce jonathAn is nt needed. Pdp must sink if they refuse to shun dat witch
ReplyDeleteTHe President made more promises than that and dI'd otherwise. He once mentioned that he only needed one term like Mandela outside the shores of this country to prove is credibility and lots of others that can not be listed. It is what PDP has taught all its members to do, deceiving others just like the name of the party. Wike deceived Nigerian students, Mimiko deceived Labour party, Obi deceived APGA and the president deceived Nigeria in his first term presidential bid. We are wiser now. PDP will be shocked.
ReplyDeleteWhen Mimiko, Obi nd others decamped pdp were clapping nd singing. Pls. Let's stop blaming apc for everything if you don't have any meaningful contribution why not keep quite.
ReplyDeleteThat is politics. It is a game of deceit. The player know the game and are playing it the way it is. To condemn Tambuwa is to condemn all our politicians
ReplyDeleteAn aboki will always be an aboki, no matter how highly educated and enlightened. Always brainless. So his aboki brothers have finally convinced and confused him.
ReplyDeleteYou are a senseless commentator.
DeleteYou are such a typical political biased person. How can you leap so far to calling people that disagree with you names like "Aboki". I believe people should have the right to change their mind regardless of what people like you and I thinks.
DeleteSo u too are his aboki siblings? . Good for nothing parasites
DeleteTambuwal has done nothing wrong his Governor is APC, his LGA is APC, his ward and Constituency is APC then tell mm who is he representing. Tambuwal has no option. He is a gentleman he has waited patiently for PDP to mend broken wall of defection but the solution was not in view...
