An Air France plane was isolated at Madrid’s airport in Spain on Thursday because of a suspected Ebola case after a passenger was reported to have a fever and shivers, officials said. The passenger, who had travelled from Lagos, Nigeria, was taken by ambulance to an unspecified hospital in Madrid but the rest of the passengers were allowed to leave the plane as normal, Air France said in a statement.
The flight, carrying 163 people, arrived in Madrid from Paris, the company said.
The plane was taken to a special area of the airport.
A Spanish Health Ministry spokeswoman was quoted by the Associated Press that authorities were treating it as a suspected Ebola case.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with the regulations of her office.
Earlier, a Health Ministry official said the condition of the Spanish nursing assistant with Ebola appeared to be improving but a person who came into contact with her before she was hospitalised October 6 had a fever and would be hospitalised and tested for the virus.
Teresa Romero, 44, is in stable condition at Madrid’s Carlos III hospital and the level of Ebola virus in her body was declining, ministry spokesman Fernando Simon said. Romero has been hospitalised for 10 days. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
