Presidency begs Oyo PDP to present consensus gov candidate

The Presidency has initiated moves aimed at presenting a consensus governorship candidate by the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Already, President Goodluck Jonathan has asked the Senate President, Sen. David Mark to summon all the governorship aspirants to a meeting where he felt consensus would be reached on the issue.

At a meeting Mark had with the aspirants at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday evening, the aspirants failed to agree on who should fly the party’s flag in the state for the 2015 election.

Those at the meeting were a former Governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala; a former Senate Leader, Sen. Teslim Folarin; Soji Adejumo, Seyi. Makinde and a former local government chairman in the state, Chief Wole Oyelese.

However, sources at the meeting told revealed that both Oyelese and Adejumo informed Mark that there were five other governorship aspirants left out of the meeting.

Their position was said to have been countered by Makinde who reportedly told the meeting that at least 80 per cent of the serious contenders were present.

Among those listed as being left out were Kehinde Olaosebikan, Femi Babalola, Bola Adetunji and Owolabi Babalola.

It was gathered that one of the aspirants who was at the meeting deliberately left the other aspirants out, thinking that those in attendance would have been asked to vote for a consensus candidate among those in attendance.

It was gathered that Mark said it was wrong to have left them out, saying that all the aspirants ought to be carried along in the exercise.

One of those at the meeting said, “The senate president was not happy with the development, which made him to postpone the meeting.

“He said all the aspirants must be invited to the next meeting which will hold at the same venue on Wednesday by 1pm.”

It was gathered that the Wednesday meeting would attempt at picking one of the aspirants as the consensus candidate for the election.

Such candidate is expected to be escorted to the national headquarters of the party in Abuja where he would pick the governorship nomination form by other aspirants.
