No fewer than 14 suspected dealers in adulterated drinks and other products were quizzed by the operatives of the Abia State Police Command when they raided some shops at the popular Cemetery market in Aba, Abia State.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna, said the raid conducted in partnership with the Consumer Protection Agency of Nigeria, followed a tip-off that some unpatriotic elements were pushing out fake and adulterated products through the market.
He said besides the suspects, 58 cartons of assorted brands of adulterated hot drinks, some quantities of antiseptic soaps, baby creams, and beverages were seized during the raid.
According to him, “the suspects who claimed to be maids or servants to the fleeing shop-owners were arrested in possession of the drinks and washed bottles to be filled with adulterated liquids.”
The PPRO said investigations were on to unravel the sources of the drinks and to track down the masterminds, after which those found culpable would be arraigned in court to serve as a deterrent to others who intend to engage in such criminal acts.
