Please forgive us, PDP begs Obasanjo

Members of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to forgive them.

They said the President should regard members of the party as his children who needed to be forgiven after making mistakes.

Obasanjo, a former Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, has refused to identify with the party following series of disagreements he has with President Goodluck Jonathan and the running of the party.

The former President even as the chairman of BoT of the party, did not attend meetings of the various organs of the party, including its National Executive Committee.

The former President had criticised President Jonathan on many occasions and even written an open letter to him, in which he accused him of many atrocities.

He had also criticised the way the President had handled the insecurity crisis in the North-East, an action that had made the President to also reply the former president.

Obasanjo is said to be angry with the President because of his insistence to run for a second term, an action that was said to have negated an agreement he had with the party and the PDP governors which Obasanjo was privy to.

And as the party is preparing for the 2015 general elections, Obasanjo has refused to identify with the PDP.

Obasanjo has been receiving politicians from both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, who are seeking for his support.

But speaking while receiving a former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, who defected from the Labour Party to the PDP in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’Azu, begged Obasanjo to come back to the PDP.

Mu’azu, who was reacting to an earlier apology offered by Daniel, said every member of the party must beg the former President for forgiveness.

He described Obasanjo as a pragmatic leader, who he said hailed from a zone he claimed had produced the best educated people in the country.

He said the credit for this must go to the former Premier of the Western Region, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

He said, “I want to join OGD, I want to join my dear senior brother and indeed all the teeming members here to very sincerely apologise to our leader, to our baba, my baba, General, President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to forgive us.

“We cannot continue. I know he has been very prayerful. In the Villa, I know he used to pray every morning. Very early, 5:30 to 6am, he is praying.

“And I know he keeps on praying all the time. As we say in our Lord’s Prayer: ‘Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who trespass against us’; Baba, you have to forgive us. I beg you in the name of the Almighty God, so that you too can be forgiven. We are your children. We are making mistakes, we have made mistakes, we have apologised.

“We will not agree even if you want to throw the baby away with the bath water, the baby will not go without you.

“So, please baba, we apologise. Come and lead us. Even the President (Goodluck Jonathan) is waiting for you. Come and lead us. You are our leader, we appreciate you, we thank you for your leadership.

“We thank you for your courage. And we assure you that by the grace of God, we are all good boys and girls.”

Before Mu’azu spoke, the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark had also appealed to the former President to forgive the party and its members.

He said it would be wrong for Obasanjo to abandon the party he laboured to build.

Mark, who is the chairman of the party’s Integration Committee for the party in South-West, said everyone in the state ought to belong to the PDP, which he said produced Obasanjo as the president.

He said, “Daniel is right that older persons are always right. All of us in the PDP are begging Baba to forgive us even if he is annoyed with us.”

  2. Wow! I think they now see how relevant the old man is and a call is in order especially when he can join forces with the growing opposition, a situation the PDP can not affect to ignore. PDP is evil and the only thing that matters to them is to cling to power but never to liberate the country.

  6. No GEJ is in power therefore, he can do it only with Pa Clark and Oritshejafor.

I dey lough, OBJ single-handedly planted GEJ at Ashorock like Iroko tree and that is where the 9ja problems started and the outcomes are the rubbish we are seeing today.

No you don't even need to discuss with OBJ since Alihaji Asari is there as a secret Defense minister to kill everybody in 9ja sake of 2015 elections and that was the reason for the illegal purchase of arms and ammunition and Nigerians should please take note that they have already got some in their armory before, Baba God open their ash.

  7. Rubbish, who is OBJ?, the one that can't even win election in his ward, the one that stole all the land in the name of Operation Feed the Nation when he was military head if state, the one that stole billions on naira when he was president in the name of presidential library. Why must we always go back to these old crooks?. They are the reason why the country can't move forward because they they want to die and give the younger ones breathing space. Can this happen in other climes?, the answer is emphatic no. OBJ and his likes are simply irrelevant for now because they are the reason why this country is retrogresing. They should be left alone and prepare for their wicked eventual dearth, period

    1. Question is, does OBJ really have the political clout they acceed to him? The answer is no. What he has is the power of manouvering. If elections are done normally in Nigeria, nobody needs him to win. These PDP goons have no confidence in themselves. They don't need OBJ who cannot fairly win 🏆 an election in his native place.

This is someone that had been abused, disrespected and almost disgraced by so called PDP and their sympathisers now election is at the corner and this is the next move!rightly said above, Why not rely on Asari,Clark, ur boy on PH maybe Abati and Okupe to patch the party through 2015? Or you guys just woke up and realised OBJ is paramount in ur quest for power. I wouldn't be surprised if OBJ decides to let go and join them cz these guys(OBJ included) are capable of anything!

  9. Obasanjo is not God, he couldn't perform on Nigerian economy like GEJ. He is a greedy person right from inception that is why he needed third term in power like Nigeria Presidency is his fathers thrown. Good luck is from Niger Delta Region and by constitution have the right to run for a second term not because of anybody. Lets do away with greed and sentiment For the first time a learned President sat on the throne refracts do not allow him to led this Nation to the promise land, Obasanjo is not PDP , we remember that even his people did not like him while in power neither did he pass in his ward during his election. Baba could not stop sharia Law in the North when it started why is he opening his mouth wide now for eye service to discredit our beloved President . Please let the sleeping dog lie for we do not forget what he did to Akwa Ibom on onshore-offshore oil diacortomy . Baba should lead to embrace good thing not substantiating for selfish reasons.

  10. OBJ should not be considered because he is a distractor, we should ignore him because the PDP problem today OBJ is the cause, why should he side track GEJ not to go for a second term when he needed to go for Third team, OBJ is a disgrace to Nigeria. PDP should not beg him for anything let him go and enjoy Nigerian Money in Ota farm and remain quite till dead.

  15. It will be a surprise to me if the man accedes to their request. Papa once called Fayose "omo buruku" and Fayose also replied "Baba agba iya" They went and published all sorts of stories about her much loved Iyabo just to bring him down to zero. They even said that he slept with his daughter in-law. How the man is still managing his home is a misery to me because they brought to the fore the dirty part of his private life to the whole world to read and digest. Go back and work for PDP? Is it for power or because he is hungry? Let us keep our fingers crossed for now.

  16. Did i hear somebody say the first time a ‘learned man‘ seat on the throne? Well, it‘s true we heard that your drunk brorher went to school and he study zoology but the truth is your brother doesn‘t have the qualities of leadership. This disease called badluck ebola jonathan is the worst thing that ever happened to this great nation called Nigeria, if not to africa as a whole. Infact, ebola jonathan is the most “weak, dull, lazy, senseless, wicked and irresponsible“ leader i ever heard of, so, the earlier you guys drop sentiment and face reality the better for you. Learned man your scabbie ass!

  17. Lets beg baba to assuage his ego that had waned down considerably. PDP is one of the most pragmatic and interesting political party in Africa. It is one family with focus and dogged determination to succeed. The party is filled with men and women of distinction in their different fields.
Let them beg baba, they know what they are doing. They can use him when they need him and drop him when they don't. Second term was good for baba and if he had his way wouldn't have minded a third.
Let PDP use him to actualize what he himself enjoyed. have no problem about that. I will refuse to join issues with people with high degree of narrow mindedness.
I just wish my northern brothers will allow this "weak" Jona give them quality education, a legacy l their past leaders denied them.
To the ignorant youths who have allowed these unrepentant northern leaders to use them to foment trouble all over the place, shame on you. You can never become leaders from the jungle with your myopic mentality and self inflicted illiteracy. Education and by extension western education brings illumination, advancement and productivity. See men like Mallam El Rufai, Nuhu Ribadu, these are thorough bred professionals and potential leaders. The reason is that they are trained and they embraced western education. Lay down your arms because boko haramism ia concept that would have thrived in pre-historic times.
If i were you i would shun men who use me to advance their selfish interest and embrace peace and amnesty. Find out what has happened to most of those Militants of the Niger Delta who dropped their weapons for amnesty. I am not a politician but at the same time , it wouldn't be out of place if you allow Jona complete the good work he had begun, not perfect though, but you would agree that the situation on ground has not given us the fair view to judge him properly. God bless Nigeria.
