The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party is pushing for the resignation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mallam Aminu Tambuwal over his defection to the APC.
Already, the members of the National Working Committee of the party had met with PDP leaders in the House concerning the defection.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Abuja.
He said, “After a thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that the Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority.
“We are not unmindful of the fact that Hon. Tambuwal became Speaker on the platform of the PDP as the political party with the majority of seats in the House of Representatives and that this incontrovertible fact has not changed.”
It was gathered that the party might be pushing for his impeachment if he refused to resign. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

we all knows this will be the final reaction of PDP , according to their statement that Tambuwal defection is never a suprise to them, while are they moving for his resignation or he will be impearched.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly what the constitution says...The speaker position is to be for political party with majority seats in the house..As an honorable man as he use to claim, the next thing for him is to vacate his position as speaker and allow a pdp member in the house to occupy the seat.....But come to think of it,what gave tambuwa assurance that APC is better than PDP???
ReplyDeleteHe can nto become the governor oF So koto under PDP because PDP can not win Sokoto. The last councillor ship election is a pointer.
DeleteLiar! What constitution, perhaps the one you wrote for a day like this. The currently operating constitution of the FGN clearly stated that the Speaker would be elected by members of the House, no mention was made of him being from the majority party. Your interpretation is typical of how PDP works, turning things upside down to suit its purpose
DeleteAnonymous 9.05am, can you quote the specific portion of the constitution that says "The speaker position is to be for political party with majority seats in the house"?
ReplyDeletePDP! Personality Destruction Party. Vintage, that's what it means. Didn't expect less desperate moves. But, let's see how they can impeach Tambuwal; doesn't anyone have a right to change political affiliation again? Does the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria say the Speaker of the House of Representatives MUST be of the ruling party. Olisa Metuh is simply an ignoramus.
