Northerners to Jonathan: You’ve failed

Prominent voices from Northern Nigeria have replied President Goodluck Jonathan’s self appraisal in his Independence Day address, where he said, he has performed well in the last five years of his government.

They disagreed with the President on the claim, saying he has failed woefully with his inability to put his feet on the ground and deal with those who had been the cog in the will of Nigeria’s progress.
The northern public also faulted the celebration of the country’s independence, saying only those looting the nation’s treasury had reasons to celebrate.
Shehu Sani, a prominent human rights activist, said, “The Jonathan administration has been able to appease the yearning of people of South South to produce the President of Nigeria. But all that has is that he ended up enriching a gang of militants and he has become so inept and incapable of prosecuting corruption.
“The nation has never been divided like we have been under Goodluck Jonathan and the worst of all today, we are faced with a serious problem of insurgency and kidnapped to which the reputation of his government damaged.
“The President has failed woefully, especially with his inability to put his feet down and deal with some certain persons in his government who had been seen to be cog in the will of Nigeria’s progress.”
On the nation’s independence, he said, “You can categorize Nigeria’s history into four segments namely the colonial era, democratic era, military rule, civil war and now insurgency. To assess the journey so far, you can also sub divide it into three or four sub sections.
“You can assess the journey so far politically, economically, socially and the journey so far historically. Politically, you can say that we have spent most of our period of independence under military rule and that had denied Nigerians the opportunity to rise and fall and learn from the democratic process.
“The military rule was a period characterized by human right violations, tyranny, depression and unaccountable government. It was also a period of political prosecution. The military rule was an aberration, it was a moment in which individuals took up arms against the will and the constitution of the country and impose themselves as political leaders. In the process, they amass wealth, stylishly the socio-political and economic development of the country.
The Spokesman of Northern Elders’ Forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, said, “There is nothing to say than telling Nigerians that there is no reason to celebrate Nigeria at 54.
While, a former federal lawmaker, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, said, “Nigeria is not in the right direction towards development. We are only in the direction towards mayhem and confusion, poverty, corruption and irresponsible governance. Therefore, there is nothing celebrate about our being 54. And those who go out of their way to loot our treasury to celebrate know within themselves that, there is nothing to celebrate.”

    4. In fact Sani,u're a first class material. He will resit d exams & probably carry over to the next tenure. If any region has contributed to the backwardness of this country, it's the North. Count the number of northern leaders, elected or by coup d'etat. They're of greater proportion,if power should shift to any where,it should be to the South east or middle belt. No more Aboki in Aso Rock.

  3. The truth of the matter is that Northerners are not happy that the current President is a Southerner. We all understand your plight. Instead of the Northerners to help assist the Federal Govt. in providing useful information so to Fight the present day insurgency which is high in the North, they were busy having sympathy for Boko Haram and faulting Jonathan's Administration. The Northerners are quite myopic in their view of Nigeria. Once again they are about to Loose Presidency to the South because of their ignorant and nonchalant attitude even to their very brothers in North. God Help Nigeria..

Qu’ran (9:111) - "Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain,…”

Qu'ran (61:9): "He it is who has sent His Messenger (Mohammed) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam) to make it victorious over all religions even though the infidels may resist."

Qu'ran (48:29) - "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard (ruthless) against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves"

Bukhari (52:73) - "Allah's Apostle said, 'Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords'."

Qu'ran (4:76) - "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…”

Qu'ran (61:4) - "Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way."

    2. Let them continue to kill themselves over there. It reduces their voting age population and Jonathan will still emerge winner no matter what.

  4. You northerners are the problem, You are the Islamic extremists who are sponsoring and perpetrating the insurgency to score him down and you are also blaming someone who is innocent. Since you northern Muslims don't want him to rule with peace of mind, do not expect to have peace if you eventually take over power.

    1. Olodo! How many northerners have been in power and for how long, out of the 54yrs the country is,the north has been in power by one means or the other for more than 30yrs. If this country is backward, they contributed most to it. If power is to rotate,it is to shift to the south east or the middle belt. No Aboki should dream of Aso Rock for the meantime. Meanwhile, GEJ has done more than all those northern leaders of the past. GEJ for President come 2015. The north can start planning what next to do after Boko haram. You forget that all the money you guys have been looting and sharing is from the South. Monkey dey work, baboon dey chop!

  6. Without the north west and the north east nigeria would have been a very great nation. They have remained bitter blood sucking enemies of progress. A major liability with absolutely no will for progress

  7. If Jonathan has failed, then all former leaders from the North are worst failure. He is a Southerner/Christian and they hate him with passion. No matter what they do, GEJ would still emerge as the President of FRN till 2019.

  8. If GJ is not president how will nigeria be able to continue enjoying the oil revenue of his people? Do we honestly think they will sit and fold their arms while another northerner comes into office to reverse the little progress that has been made? Those days are long gone but the born to rule bigots cannot see it

  9. For 30 decades Northerners were in power, the North remained the MOST impoverished and illitrate part of Nigeria even though the richest man in Africa is from the North. Since after independence, it's only the present administration (President Jonathan) that has sen the need to educate northern children, hence establishing over 118 Amajiri Schools in the North. Northerners, which enpowerment is better than education? Northerners, which northern president is better than GEJ? Northerners, are you not the ones who instituted Boko Haram to discredit GEJ because of power hunger? Northerners, the corruption you talk about, did it start with the present government or since far 30 decades you were in power? Northerners, the former President that looted the hugest money from the nations treasury, is he from the North or South? Northerners/Boko Haram, if you are wise, sort out all these past Northern presidents who only succeeded impoverishing and fooling you northerners for 30 years and deal with them. By so doing, your problems would be alleviated. You cannot help but to leave GEJ alone and/or support him because he ramains the best you have ever experienced. Nobody will stop GEJ from remaining in Aso Rock till 2019. Northerners, think with your head!!!!!!

  12. WE all can agree that the various regions and religious groups in Nigeria dont trust each other again. For me, to peacefully divide this country is the best option before another war because a relationship (even christian marriages) that lacks trust is sitting on a time bomb waiting to explode. Sorry for the Igbos who had believed on the so called ONE NIGERIA and had helped in developing other regions. They had been the worst losers in every crisis and will equally be the worst losers even if the country is peacefully divided. HAPPY 54 INDEPENDENCE NIGERIA ,PROPOSED INDEPENDENCE BIAFRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
