The Managing Director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Mr Ibrahim Abdulsalam, said on Monday that the agency would ensure safe and secure airspace in partnership with the Nigerian Air Force.
Abdulsalam stated this in Ikeja when he received Air Vice Marshal Olutayo Oguntoyinbo, Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, who led other officers on a courtesy visit to NAMA.
He said the relationship between NAF and NAMA needed to be continually improved since the two organisations play complimentary roles in ensuring effective airspace.
He said NAMA would always provide the needed capacity and expertise to the force whenever the need arose.
Abdulsalam said 59 Air Traffic Controllers had graduated through professional rating by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority after undergoing training in some parts of the country.
"We ask them to deploy their wealth of experience towards enriching the capacity of airspace operations in the country.
"It is believed that this latest development will further boost the capacity of the agency in the critical area of operations and also enhance technical capacity of the agency," he said.
Abdulsalam said the newly rated ATCs had their on-the-job training in aerodrome, approach procedural, area airways procedural, approach aurveillance and area Control surveillance.
Oguntoyinbo said the air force was an ally of NAMA in the area of strategic airspace management, training of air force personnel on air traffic control and airspace surveillance.
"The professional and technical expertise provided by NAMA in air force training and operations have been outstanding and invaluable.
"Our visit is therefore to build on this existing synergy between the two organisations in view of the numerous benefits accruing to the nation in terms of safety and security of the airspace," he said.
Oguntoyinbo pledged to strengthen existing cordial and harmonious relationships with the agency in the overall safety and security of the nation's airspace.
