Local Government elections in Delta commence

Accreditation of voters for the Local Government elections in Delta, commenced on schedule on Saturday with impressive turnout, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
NAN correspondents, who visited various polling stations observed that accreditation of voters commenced at between 8.30am.
Some presiding officers told NAN that electoral materials arrived the polling units on time and that accreditation commenced immediately after distribution of the materials to various polling units.
Supervisory Presiding Officer of Asagba Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, in the Oshimili South Local Government Area, Mr Martin Kiyichukwu, said: “everything is perfectly ready for the election.
“The ballot boxes and other materials are all available and as you can see, the presiding officers in all the 14 units in this Ward 5 are busing accrediting the voters.”
At Uzoigwe Primary School Polling Station, Asaba, the Presiding Officer of Unit 5, Mr Smart Uzuazor, said he had accredited more than 30 persons.
Also at the Delta State Universal Basic Education Centre, Ward 13, Asaba, the Supervisory Presiding Officer, Mr Festus Amalikenemechi, said that all materials for the election had arrived.
Voters were also being accredited at Oneh Primary School Ward 15 at 9 a.m. while security and party agents were also on their beats.
At Ahabam Primary School, Ward 13, Asaba, accreditation was also going.
Mr Stephen Okocha, the Presiding Officer at Ejife Primary School Ward 9 at Ibusa in the Oshimili North Local Government Area, said that materials arrived at 9am.
Accreditation of voters started at 8.38am in Warri South, Udu, Brutu and Ughelli South Local Government Areas.
The Presiding Officer at Jeremi Ward 5 I in Ughelli South, Mr Anthony Aluh, said that materials arrived at 8.38am and that accreditation commenced immediately.
At Issele-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha North, distribution of electoral materials, started as early as 8.30am.
However, as at 10.15 a.m., electoral materials had yet to reach Ward 3 in Ogwashi-Uku in the Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The polling units that were yet to get the materials included Umuneze Polling Unit, Nnabuwa Primary School Polling Unit and Ogoma Primary School Polling Unit.
NAN reports that turnout of voters was impressive at all polling stations visited and that security agents were also deployed adequately.
