Jonathan orders priority attention for second Abuja airport runway

President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the proposed second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja to be given priority.
This was disclosed by his senior special assistant on aviation, Shehu Iyal, at a press conference in Abuja, on Monday.

“There will be a second runway in Abuja for safety, for security, for efficiency.” Mr. Iyal said.
He said Nigeria had retained its high international status in aviation which it recorded for the first time in 2010.
He also noted for the first time a Nigerian was elected the first African to head the International Civil Aviation Organization, ICAO.
He said Nigeria now had a total radar coverage that could track and record any aeroplane within its airspace.
He said waiver for customs duties to airlines operating in the country had been granted thereby increasing the number of airlines flying into the country with an equal increase in domestic operations.
“What I am talking here are facts and you can see them on ground” he said.
He said the latest in the line to join the Nigerian route was the Cathay Pacific Airways.
The Cathay Pacific Airways is the de-facto international flag carrier airline of Hong Kong.
The airline’s operations include scheduled passenger and cargo services to 168 destinations in 42 countries worldwide.
