I'm joining presidential race to tackle insecurity, corruption - Buhari

Former Head of State and presidential aspirant under the banner of All Progressives Congress(APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has explained that, his intention to take another slot at the nation’s presidency come 2015 despite his old age was effectively tackle the problem of insecurity and also prudently manage the nation’s resources to the best advantage of the poor and the rich.

He therefore called on the people of the country to join hands with the APC so as to bring new change into the economic and political development of the country come 2015.

Gen. Buhari disclosed this in Ilorin in an interview with journalists yesterday shortly after he held indoor consultations on his 2015 presidential ambition with the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed at Government House, Ilorin.

According to him,”it is disheartening that the nation’s economy is not being properly managed, I have the track record with Nigerians.I will manage the economy and prudently manage our resources to the best advantage of the poor and the rich”

Continuing,he said ” I am sure you know what happened and what has been happening. I believe what Nigerians needs now is to be secured and efficiently managed”.

On his desire to take the nation’s presidency slot again, Gen. Buhari said,

“I contested three times, I lost three times and I ended up in Supreme Court three times”,stressing that,”We thank God the constitution did not limit how many times you can contest once you are eighteen and above.”

“I have done it before in a different system and from 1999 till now, I am sure you know what happened and what has been happening. I believe what Nigerians needs now is to be secured and efficiently managed.

“This is the APC stand and I will like to use the opportunity through my party, through the system to secure and efficiently manage Nigeria.

“Of course, it is not being managed. It is up to the party and it is up to the people”.
On the consensus arrangement being planned by the leadership of APC during the forthcoming presidential primary, Gen. Buhari said, “We want a fair playing ground for everybody, let Nigerians be given the impression and let them believe that they do matter”.

“All these efforts to salvage them is for them and the country but if there is consensus agreement, it is well and good. It would safe time and resources but if people insist in making sure that all those that wanted to lead should present themselves and let the people decide,m it is all well and good. The system allows it”.

On the withdrawal of former governor of Kwara state and senator representing Kwara central senatorial district at the national assembly, Senator Bukola Saraki from APC presidential primary, Gen. Buhari said, “I read it in the newspapers, I didn’t beg him to leave it for me but it is his own decision”.

‘He(Saraki) has been a governor. He knows the politics of the country, his father works extremely hard and virtually established a dynasty voluntarily supported by people of this state”.

  4. BUHARI is not the Saint we need!

It was under Buhari's watch as the Federal Minister of Petroleum that 2.8b naira got missing, they moved the money from one account to another for selfish interest; under Buhari's rule his ADC Major Jokolo's father compromised national interest by bringing in 56 Suitcases of Foreign currency, Buhari did nothing; Buhari's PTF was adjudged corrupt by a probe panel setup to audit its brief, do you remember how a major Consultant/Contractor to the PTF died mysteriously? Under Buhari, Idiagbon's under-aged son went on pilgrimage to Mecca against Govt regulations. Buhari isn't who he seems.

Buhari owns a Duplex in Asokoro, yet his supporters say he doesn't own a home in Abuja. It's on record that the PTF Estate on Cairo Street in Wuse II Abuja is Buhari's, the PTF under his watch leased the land from him for 15years and built up the Estate which is now his(corrupt enrichment).

Do you remember Uba Ahmed's disappearance from detention after Buhari's Coup, have you forgotten his double standards, how Ajasin was kept indefinitely in jail after the Courts cleared him of corruption, how Ekwueme, Ambrose Alli and others were jailed but Shagari wasn't tried or jailed?

What about the morals of a Buhari who served a 'demonised' Abacha for five years without speaking against the impious murder of Kudirat, Rewane & others.

  5. >We are people with different inclinations but for the purpose of those who are detached from history or the youths below the age of 30 or those who had been fed with historical distortions there is need to put the record straight for a man whose track record remains a phenomenon in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large.

    1. I can confirm that as a student in d eastern part of Nigeria, medicare was heavily subsidised 4 Nigerian students, schools were renovated, new hostels were built, roads were tarred and buses procured by PTF under Buhari. I learnt Abacha was looking 4 a trusted hand 2 run PTF that was why he was chosen. He obviously understands what the grass roots require. Nigerians let's be wise!

    3. Please just do a search with Muhammad Buhari on Encyclopedia Britannica and below would be your result.

      Alternate title: Muhammadu Buhari
Written by The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica
Muhammad Buhari, Muhammad also spelled Muhammadu   (born Dec. 17, 1942, Daura, Nigeria), Nigerian military leader and politician, who served as head of state (1984–85).

Educated largely in Katsina, Buhari took military training in Kaduna as well as in Great Britain, India, and the United States. He was involved in the military coup that ousted Yakubu Gowon in 1975 and was appointed military governor of North Eastern state (now Borno) that same year. He was appointed federal commissioner for petroleum resources by Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, who became military head of state when Gowon’s successor, Murtala Mohammed, was assassinated in 1976. By 1977 Buhari had become the military secretary at Supreme Military Headquarters, which was the seat of government. By September 1979 he had returned to regular army duties and commanded a division based in Kaduna. Although elected government had returned to Nigeria in 1979, dissatisfaction with what the military perceived as corrupt politicians led to another military coup on Dec. 31, 1983, and Buhari was chosen unanimously to be the new head of state.

Insurmountable economic problems plagued the Buhari regime as petroleum prices collapsed in the face of expanding foreign debt. Buhari instituted austerity measures that caused severe hardship to the average Nigerian. In addition, political corruption continued unabated, with politicians escaping to Western countries with millions of dollars in government money. In an effort to stop dissension, Buhari instituted restrictions on the press, political freedoms, and trade unionists. By August 1985 even the military had had enough, and Ibrahim Babangida took control of the government. Buhari was detained in Benin City but was released at the end of 1988.

A very relevant question you've asked Ojoma, almost all the big wigs in the inner caucus of the party that wants to install Buhari are involved in corruption directly or indirectly, most of them are neck deep into it. He needs to tell us how he intends to win a fight against corruption, when his closest allies in politics are die hard corrupt persons. I tire o!

    1. You must be somebody less than 12 years old hence this statement of yours. You cannot rewrite history, if you dont know ask your father. If you must know OBJ himself atestated to clean record of General Buhari at various occasion. If Buhari agreed to OBJ for allowing Ngozi Nwela as his vice, OBJ wouldnt have opted for Yar adua/ Jonathan.

  11. He has already promised us that he will act like Mandela by ruling only one term hand over to youth, it is better we give him a chance, maybe he has a special plan for Nigeria that will make us remember him forever. I am from southeast but I see him as someone who will truly tackle corruption and insecurity.

  13. If you are joining the presidential race because of insecurity & corruption. My singular question is what have you done to mobilize Northerners against Boko Haram?

  14. Agreed with you that he was invited by Obama during his 1st tenure swearing in ceremony but buhari lacked leadership. His of leadership is that of Military dictatorship which may not succeed the current despensation. We required effort of young and energetic leader, educated, prime mover, technocrat and other good qualities being expected. Nigeria problem is greater than corruption. This is a man that will aquire the million of this but does not know how to use it.
