Jordan Henderson’s second-half goal ensured Liverpool ended their three-match winless run in the Premier League as they beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 on Saturday.
Brendan Rodgers’s side have had a fitful opening to the campaign and were beaten 1-0 by Basel in the Champions League in midweek.
They took the lead just before half-time when the impressive Adam Lallana scored his first goal since joining from Southampton in a £25 million ($39.9 million, 31.9 million euros) move.
West Brom’s England Under-21 striker Saido Berahino pulled the visitors level from the penalty spot shortly after the break, before Henderson gave Liverpool victory just after the hour.
Liverpool have registered only one clean sheet in their last 16 matches, but victory ahead of the international break will help to soothe nerves.
After a difficult week, Liverpool looked uncertain for much of the first half, with Rickie Lambert — making his first league start after being drafted in for Mario Balotelli — looking isolated in attack.
Steven Gerrard threatened from a couple of free kicks, but at the other end Craig Dawson missed with an overhead kick as the hosts once again struggled to deal with a set-piece.
Raheem Sterling caused problems with a fine run past two defenders, but his shot was blocked by a defender before Lallana’s follow-up was pushed wide by West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Lambert finally got an opening when he latched on to a long ball from Martin Skrtel, but his effort was pushed away by Foster.
Berahino passed up two chances to open the scoring for the visitors, thumping one shot straight at Simon Mignolet from distance before heading wide after being picked out by Sebastien Pocognoli’s cross from the left.
