Farmers in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State displaced after attacks on them by Fulani herdsmen have condemned what they described as huge devastation of their farms by the attackers.
One of the victims, Wuaga Daniel, who fled his home in Osoroo for Lafia, the state capital, told newsmen that his belongings were burgled by Fulani attackers.
Daniel, who said he had been sneaking to the farm to get food for his family in Lafia, said, “The Fulani herdsmen came with guns and started shooting at us. When we ran away, they came with vehicles and motorcycles to burgle our belongings.
“When I sneaked to the farm to get some food for my family, I saw some cows grazing on my farm with their owners carrying guns.
‘’Since the crisis started, we have been complaining to the authorities, but nobody cared to listen to us let alone moving to the farm to drive the herdsmen away from our farms.”
Another victim, Kwaghngu Ahambe, who is a resident of Gwabo community, expressed bitterness over the attack on the community.
He said, “As I am talking now, we cannot pass through Assakio to Obi Road bedause many Fulani herdsmen are there carrying weapons; they are killing, raping and robbing people there.
‘’My property has been burgled, my family is in Lafia and I wanted to go to the farm yesterday to get food for the family, but when I was approaching the farm, I saw some herdsmen on the road and I took to my heels immediately. My children are hungry; I have food in the farm, but I can’t go there because of fear of being attacked.”
Ahambe called on both the federal and state governments to drive away the attackers from their farms.
Another resident, Christopher Usongu, the herdsmen have been grazing freely on his farm since the crisis started.
Usongu expressed worry over the massive destruction of crops on his farm by the Fulani herdsmen. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
