The former minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Sarafa Isola has joined the governorship race in Ogun State, as he obtained his expression of interest form at the Peoples Democratic Party headquarters in Abeokuta on Friday.
He had earlier pitched his tent with Labour Party.
Declaring his intention to contest the forthcoming governorship race in 2015, he said the state deserved better governance than they were currently getting.
Isola, who also served under Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the Secretary to the State Government, said he was back to the party where he started off in 1998, and he would make welfare of the people and security his priorities if elected the governor of the state.
He described the road construction programme of the current administration as 'planless road expansion' because many people have lost their houses while some others have been relocated from their means of livelihood.
He said there was nothing wrong with the expansion of roads but not at the expense of other necessities like education.
He said,"The primary purpose of governance is to ensure the welfare of the people and provide security. Every programme of government must be people-oriented."
Isola said if elected his administration would establish New Towns Development Authority to take development to semi-urban areas in the state.
In the same vein, a former Peoples Party of Nigeria governorship candidate, Mr. Gboyega Isiaka also on Monday announced his defection from Labour Party to the PDP.
After he had collected his expression of interest to vie for the governorship of the state under PDP in 2015, he told party faithful that if given the chance, he would bring his experience in both private and public service to bear on the governance of the state.
He said, "The state under the current administration lacks vision, and the situation requires someone who has focus and can lead the state to a desirable destination.
"The 'stomach infrastructure' will be an integral part of my programmes to make life more abundant for the people of Ogun state."
The party state chairman, Mr. Bayo Dayo while receiving them separately said the party would give every aspirant a level-playing ground.
He said, "My dream is for the PDP to win both at the state and the national levels in 2015."
