Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has accused the Federal Government of being insincere about the state of the nation’s economy.
The governor said the Federal Government postponed the monthly Federal Allocation Accounts Committee meeting which was scheduled to hold in Enugu State over shortage of funds in the federation account.
Fashola said this at the 2014 World Food Day/Agric Value Chain empowerment in Lagos on Thursday.
The governor, who presented agricultural empowerment materials to 3,149 persons at the Agric Day with the theme, ‘Family farming: Feeding the world, Caring for the Earth,’ lamented that the central government was not sincere with its citizens on the current state of the country’s economy.
He said, “As I was coming to this event, I received a message that the monthly Federal Allocation Accounts Committee meeting where states know how much the country earns monthly and what percentage would be shared between the three tiers of government-Federal, State and Local governments-from the federation accounts, had been postponed.
“The meeting which was scheduled to hold in Enugu State today (yesterday) was postponed because there were not enough funds in the federation account. That is the situation of the country’s economy today.”
Fashola said the Federal Government was not reliable and that was why there was no state government that could function effectively without a well structured tax system.
According to him, “If we are to wait for the monthly federal allocation, we will not be able to provide the dividends of democracy to the residents of Lagos State.
“It was through the money we realised from taxes that we used in providing the empowerment materials for the residents of the state.
“We do not measure the economic progress in our state by the number of billionaires and owners of private jets which exclude many in the country. But we measure ours by the number of ordinary people in the society.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

ReplyDeleteIt's quite unfortunate that we Nigerian youths are suffering and smiling. Today,we accuse the leaders of inflicting life pains on us, tomorrow they give us a penury that lasts us few hours and we sing their praise here and there again. Imagine Winkie Kosuowei and other anonymous who seem to have been employed to counter any antagonistic comments made against the leaders in power and sing every now and then to earn cheap political points for our callous leaders. We shall all account for our deeds one day and God will judge us all.
ReplyDeleteAYO, am not countering any antagonistic comments. Am not a supporter of anybody. If you follow my other posts, i condemn both parties if they make any wrong statement. The other day, Fashola was saying so many bad things about the President, which could be counted as treason. I know he has done something in Lagos, but only the places they are willing to publicise to the world. Fine, the FG (infact, all Nigerians) is/are responsible for the issue of the chibok girls, what has Fashola done about this other dan to blame the FG and abuse GEJ? So many other comments I wish I had the opportunity to refer the dailies they were published to you. Well, God help us.
ReplyDeleteSome of these guys abuse Lagos state government and governor but they refuse to leave for their Niger Delta PDP ruled state, what a shame!!!!! make una leave Lagos for yoruba people o, and go to your God forsaken ND state.
ReplyDeleteMy guy, I think the only idiot here is you. Why do you all always resort to insult and name calling whenever anyone raise a different opinion about the Feds? You better wake up to the reality of things as it affect the masses of this country.
