Ekiti State Government on Saturday announced the dissolution of the 35 local government areas including Local Council Development Areas’ caretaker administrations.
This was contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, made available to News Agency of Nigeria in Ado-Ekiti.
According to the statement, all the 35 council chairmen along with their secretaries and other members of caretaker committees have been relieved of their appointments.
It stated that Governor Ayo Fayose had approved the immediate dissolution of all the councils.
The statement also ordered the immediate dissolution of all boards of parastatals, agencies and commissions.
The 35 local government areas involved were those of the original 16 and the 19 LCDAs in the state.
The statement directed all the affected caretaker chairmen to immediately hand over to the directors of administration in their respective council areas.
NAN recalls that caretaker chairmen had been in control of the 16 council areas throughout the four year tenure of the immediate past governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
The former governor also appointed caretaker committees for the 19 newly created LCDAs few days after the June 21 governorship poll which he lost.
NAN further recalls that Fayemi’s attempted to hold council election in the 16 councils on February 4, 2011, but was halted by the state High Court ruling following a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
The PDP had alleged that some of the members of the State Independent Electoral Commission were card-carrying members of the then ruling Action Congress of Nigeria.
NAN reports that Fayose, at his inaugural speech on Thursday in Ado Ekiti, vowed not to recognise any illegal creation made by the immediate past administration.

Foolish country, foolish people. This is what you expect when a thug is in charge.
ReplyDeleteWell done fayose. Now you can cleanly separate the chaff from the wheat. Start in a clean note but my advice is that you only retain the democratically elected ones and demolish the ones that are traps for you .
ReplyDeleteGood
ReplyDeleteIf you like, you can hate Fayose. Everyone, even in private businesses selects or build his/her own team members. My advise to Mr. Governor is to ensure that a democratically elected executives is expeditiously put in place in those local Governments. The LCDA should not be totally discarded as some of them can help bring rapid development to the people at the grass root. Let us find out those that are viable and necessary and support them to grow.
ReplyDeleteI think we agreed that Democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people. If so, the people have made their choice, no amount of opinion about the person of Fayose can change that. All he needs to succeed is our prayers. There is non of us that is clean or above errors. If God will forgive a sinner and also direct us to forgive one another, why are we finding it difficult to let the past be gone and hope for a better leadership in a Fayose that is loved by his own people?
Mr. Governor, please be quick to hear and slow to speak. For the mouth of a fool is full with many words. Long live Governor Fayose, Long live Ekiti State, Long live Nigeria.
