Chris Okotie lacks moral right to question Oritsejafor — CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria has challenged the founder of Household of God, Pastor Chris Okotie to manage his home and keep to biblical principles of one man, one wife.

The association was reacting to the demand by Okotie that its President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, should resign over the alleged involvement of his aircraft in the controversial $9.3m smuggled into South Africa by two Nigerians and an Israeli.

Okotie, had in a statement by Okotie on his church’s Facebook page, said, “Considering the collateral damage Pastor Ayo’s close relationship with the President has done to the Christian community, it is fit and proper for the Pastor to resign immediately as CAN President to salvage what remains of the battered image of the association.

“This is without prejudice to the on-going investigation on the matter. Denials of his culpability by the Federal Government, CAN officials and his own recent defense, does nothing to reduce the moral burden this whole saga places on his shoulders. As the titular leader of Christians in Nigeria, there’s now a serious crisis of confidence on his leadership and he ought to respond to it by resigning from his exalted position.”

But the Director of National Issues in CAN, Mr. Sunny Oibe, revealed that Okotie was looking for popularity through Oritsejafor.

He said, “Is Chris Okotie a Christian? How many wives has he?

He should go and sort out himself. Even the government has exonerated Pastor Ayo of all the allegations. So, who is Okotie? Well, it is laughable if Chris Okotie should demand that Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor should resign as President of CAN.

“Chris Okotie should remove the log in his eyes before he begins to see a peck in somebody’s eyes. Pastor Ayo had a soaring integrity before he was elected the President of CAN. Who elected Chris Okotie to become the spokesperson of Christians in Nigeria?

“CAN will not like to join issues with Okotie because doing that will amount to making him popular. He is looking for popularity which he doesn’t have through Pastor Ayo and he is not going to get it.”

  1. CAN shld stop being stupid. He has a right to air his views. Why attack his person? Did he insult pastor Ayo? Let us learn to address issues and not personalities. Even in the bible tax collectors recognised they were sinners but still recognised the truth in Christ.

  2. The young pastor has just said d fact. Some issues can only happen in Nigeria. The response by CAN is unwarranted, unjustified and non correlated with the issue raised by pastor okotie. God help us

  4. All these 'men of God'. Must be a lesser god they worship, since they squabble over material things of the world.

  5. Let's forget about the moral conduct of the speaker and consider the veracity of the words coming from him.
Considering every circumstance surrounding this whole issue of arms deal. I share the views of people who think the CAN President should step aside. In civilised societies, he would wait for people to say or write all this rubbish being said currently.
First,we were given the impression that the plane was a gift to him, which was to enable him promote his Evangelical duties,I ordinarily would not expect this gift to be turned to a money making enterprise, except that was the initial purpose.
If I suppose he did that to enable him maintain the financial obligations of owning an aircraft,I will also expect that he should have rejected the gift on the grounds that he could not afford its maintenance. That would have been more honourable than what is going on right now. He could have sold the plane and donated the money to the many poor and less privileged people all over the world. I still recall a place in the Holy Bible portrayed how difficult it will be for a rich man to make it to God's kingdom, yet Men of God are among the richest globally. I thought the gospel told us to avoid being slaves to worldly riches but today most of these Men of God do not live modest lives. I think the most honourable thing for him to do is resign. The pope did so in the recent past.
Apart from this,CAN should revert missionary work to what it used to be. Schools owned by the Church or pastors should be either free or very affordable for the poor and less privileged. My children attend a school owned by a Pastor and Pastor Mrs. butII'm made to pay exorbitantly for everything, from school uniforms to books are at unimaginable prices. I pay because I seem not to have another alternative, but I'm left with the impression that these are not Christians. This has become a popular behaviour of these men of God using various means to extort vulnerable poor people. Yet CAN has done nothing to save the image of Christianity by stopping this.
Christ rode on a borrowed horse when he needed to make the triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Why did he not ask his father in heaven to send him a golden chariot from heaven, driven by golden horses and a battalion of angels as escorts? These Men of God of modern day have made a mess of all that Christ came to teach the world. I know of the possibility of being hunted by those of them who will be seriously aggrieved by all I've said here but the worst that they can do is take my life, but it makes no sense living in a world that has been made so filthy by those who are supposed to keep it clean. Change! That's what I request.

  7. These men are bringing shame to the body of Christ. Their inordinate desire for carnality is plunging the Nigeria church into the quagmire of public ridicule. All christians must rise and pray for the end time church because God's judgement will start from the church.

  8. CAN is coming out to defend its prwsidenty instead to make him resign, I am sorry to write, CAN is an irresponsible organisation, no wonder the Catholic church pulled out. It is a religious arm of PDP

  9. Idiot, selfish, gullible and shameless set of people sitting over the affairs of CAN. What is wrong in asking Oritshajafor to resing. Ofcourse, he has always been controversial since the days of Idahosa. He is a worshiper of mammon. Ade.
