NFF sacks Keshi

The Nigerian Footbal Federation (NFF) has sacked super Eagles head coach, stephen Okechukwu Keshi, despite recording his first win in African Cup of Nations qualifiers last night.

The sack is contained in a communique released by the board in the early hours of Thursday.

The communique also indicated that the federation is either going to replace Keshi with Amodu Shuaibu or shop for a foreign coach for the national team in the long run.

However, a consortium of coaches will lead the Super Eagles for ONLY the two concluding matches of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series (against Congo in Brazzaville and against South Africa in Uyo), after which an expatriate coach will be appointed.

The consortium, led by Amodu Shaibu, also has Salisu Yusuf, Gbenga Ogunbote and Aloysius Agu. The team also has a new Coordinator in former international Garba Lawal, while Toyin Ibitoye is the new Media Officer and Godfirst Chike, the new Equipment Manager. Team Secretary, Enebi Achor, is retained.

The NFF thanked Keshi and his assistants for their services to the country and promised to pay them all owed monies within the next fortnight.

The NFF, in recognition of the coaches’ on tribulations to the Nigerian game, also approved that the trio of Keshi, Amokachi and Shorounmu should proceed to any coaching course of their choice in any country of their choice to build their capacity.

Super Eagles will travel next month to face Congo and host South Africa in Nigeria in the last phase of the qualifiers, and will need to win both matches to stand any chance of qualification for the 2015 AFCON.

  1. Employing Amodu for the Eagles will be the greatest madness of the year. That man during his several 'missionary journeys' to that position never discovered one talent for Nigeria and always depended on foreign based players.
Now that NFF has finally removed Keshi, they should go on and give us a BETTER coach than him. The Mba's and others who surfaced during Keshi's tenure would never have smelt the Eagles camp if Amodu was in charge.
I can tell you that in the next six months we shall still be debating on who will coach NIGERIA and the nations cup would have been over.
The NFF should also know when to sack themselves for they are the real reason behind all the problems we have had. They remained plan less and still expected miracles from the Eagles. I wish NIGERIA good luck.

  7. They are all hungry coaches that are not worth their salt, if not, how can they (NFF) be sacking and taking them back arbitrary the way and anytime they like??

  8. Nice one.Keshi should have been sacked long ago.Now he can go to all those countries wanting to employ him. But I learnt it took the fans almost taking the laws into their hands after the match against Sudan before the NFF had to hastily sack Keshi. However, one who sold a dog to buy a monkey should know that there is still a squatting animal with him. Amodu is no way better.Keshi has shown that he is not a coach but has always been lucky. Now Mikel and some of those worn out players he keep fielding because of his Keshi's personal interests should go and rest in their clubs benches. Keshi could well go and coach Agbim,Ameobi and Azeez in their respective clubs.mumu!

  11. Why Amodu Shuaibu? You could have given it to Oliseh or Siasia. This guy is a set back to Nigerian football. I don't know what formed that opinion. This is the biggest gamble of the moment but it could still be revised.it is sad.
