AIG Joseph Mbu detains AIT reporter for calling him a “controversial police officer”

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in Zone 7, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, yesterday ordered the detention of Africa Independent Television (AIT) reporter Amaechi  Anakwue.
Mbu invited Anakwue to his office for allegedly referring to him as a “controversial police officer” during a television programme.

It was learnt that on getting to the office, Mbu ordered that his men to detained Anakwue.
The management of DAAR Communications last night demanded the release of the reporter.
Mbu, who was Rivers State commissioner of Police was redeployed to Abuja, following his hostile relationship with Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
In Rivers State, Mbu was accused of authorising the use of “rubber bullets” to disperse a group preparing to hold a rally, in which Senator Magnus Abe was shot.
On getting to Abuja, he authorised the use of water cannon to disperse protesting lecturers of polytechnics and colleges of education at the Eagle Square.
He described himself as a “lion”, who tamed a leopard in Rivers State, apparently referring to Governor Amaechi.
But Amaechi shot back, saying Mbu “completely lacks the steel and strength of character of a lion, and is rather a shameless, corrupt puppet and toothless attack dog of a woman.”

  2. Seriously, Mbu is sailing on dangerous waters. We have seen the likes of real Lion like Ribadu who was doing the bid of his master, Obasanjo, as EFCC czar; at the end he was disgraced out of office. Mbu is just a woman apron string. It's a shame that he has failed to recognise his constitutional role and his relationship with Patience Jonathan whose office is not constitutionally recognised.

  3. Are you not controversial? I blame the people that have left you with so much power that you have forgotten your ultimate guide as a policeman should be the law. It's only in Nigeria that you can get away with all you're doing against existing laws,be ready to arrest more people now cos more of your erring activities will begin to be opened by people.

  8. I am happy Nigerians are united over these. God bless you all. The man will soon be disgraced. How can you detain a man for saying the truth. Even the president did not detain all those that have insulted or made derogatory remarks about his person. What I'd this man is now the president, I'm sure half of the population will be detained. This guy needs to be sent to Bono to prove his animalistic instincts. A man not worthy to be called a cat calling himself a lion.

  10. I guess that now, rain has fallen and we can all see the butts of "obu". Why is President Jonathan still allowing this imbecile to tarnish his image. What is really the problem here? Do we have to wait till the international community gives us a tag before we do what should be ordinarily done? Can the Police Service Commission please fire this Mbu guy today so he can go to his village to torrorize his relatives' wives, please. Enough is enough.

  15. The freedom of speech does not mean anyone can come out and say any rubbish.

Our media is part of the problem we have in this country as they hardly come out with positive news that will challenge the people to push forward as one. The only news they bring is negative thereby dividing the interest of the people and making us think there is need for war.

The freedom of speech is guaranteed but the freedom after speech cannot be guaranteed.

    Lol.
