The Yoruba Youths Congress (YYC), a socio-cultural group, on Tuesday announced its endorsement of Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate.
Olalekan Hammed, the National Leader of the group, announced this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan.
Hammed said that the group believed Buhari was good enough to fly the APC presidential flag, having considered his past records.
“Retired General Buhari is an attested disciplinarian who was able to curtail corruption during his regime as the Head of State of the nation between 1983 and 1985.
“His landmarks as the Chairman of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund (PTDF) are also still very evident in tertiary institutions of learning in the country,” he said.
According to Hammed, the group also considers and appreciates that the former head of state did not increase petroleum pump price during his tenure.
The group, however, urged Buhari to reserve 40 per cent of his appointments for youths if he was elected as the president in 2015.
“The youth have come a long way and we have seen the need to be given the chance to offer our ideas for the growth and development of this nation,” he said.
Buhari, a former Military Governor of the defunct North Eastern State, was also a one time Federal Commissioner for Petroleum Resources.
Buhari was a former leader of the Congress for Progressive Change which later merged with other parties to form the APC.

ReplyDeleteYoruba youth and the entire nation will never regret voting for Buhari. What a wise decission.
ReplyDeleteYoruba Muslim Youth Congress knows that Buhari will support their MSS agenda and the overrall plan to make Yorubaland an Islamic region ruled from Sokoto. They are always second fiddle to the Fulani. They are planning to give Ibadan away to the Fulani Caliphate like their bastard father, Afonja, gave Ilorin away. Lagos is already in their hands, check Islamic inscriptions on the cap of Fashola and his Islamic cabinet. Check Lai Mohammed's cap anytime, that is their agenda.
ReplyDelete"like their bastard father, Afonja, gave Ilorin away" . Whoever insult another person's father has insulted his own father and whoever insult his father is a BASTARD.
DeleteLet us think before we write. Some people are "educated illiterates" and cannot even do a little finding about what their political, religious and ethnic leaders tell them. We need to shun religious and ethnicity politics for us to move out of the mess our dear country is already into.
Anonymous@9:58, Ignorant is a disease. We in this forum are not fool and cannot be misinformed. Can you come up with the evidence of your so-called Islamic inscription written on their caps. you can post the link via NE to confirm your ignorance.
Dear good nigerians, please let us forget the political party, religion or ethnic group we belong and look for a credible and patriot nigerian who can move our country forward.

Muhammad Buhari, Muhammad also spelled Muhammadu (born Dec. 17, 1942, Daura, Nigeria), Nigerian military leader and politician, who served as head of state (1984–85).
Educated largely in Katsina, Buhari took military training in Kaduna as well as in Great Britain, India, and the United States. He was involved in the military coup that ousted Yakubu Gowon in 1975 and was appointed military governor of North Eastern state (now Borno) that same year. He was appointed federal commissioner for petroleum resources by Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo, who became military head of state when Gowon’s successor, Murtala Mohammed, was assassinated in 1976. By 1977 Buhari had become the military secretary at Supreme Military Headquarters, which was the seat of government. By September 1979 he had returned to regular army duties and commanded a division based in Kaduna. Although elected government had returned to Nigeria in 1979, dissatisfaction with what the military perceived as corrupt politicians led to another military coup on Dec. 31, 1983, and Buhari was chosen unanimously to be the new head of state.
Insurmountable economic problems plagued the Buhari regime as petroleum prices collapsed in the face of expanding foreign debt. Buhari instituted austerity measures that caused severe hardship to the average Nigerian. In addition, political corruption continued unabated, with politicians escaping to Western countries with millions of dollars in government money. In an effort to stop dissension, Buhari instituted restrictions on the press, political freedoms, and trade unionists. By August 1985 even the military had had enough, and Ibrahim Babangida took control of the government. Buhari was detained in Benin City but was released at the end of 1988.
