2015: Tonye Princewill declares for governorship under PDP

Prince Tonye Princewill, former Rivers State Governorship candidate on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship ticket on Peoples Democratic Party, PDP through the social media today.

Princewill who is the heir and the only son to the Amayanabo of Kalabari, Professor Theophilous J. Princewill, a petroleum engineer, said in a statement endorsed by Wabiye Idoniboye-Obu, his media aide. “The decision to run for the governorship position is to help to deliver President Goodluck Jonathan’s second tenure in 2015″.
He said working for a party that will not promote that agenda is not really an option for him. “Even if by some miracle of omission, APC offered me the ticket on a platter of gold, I would not take it,” he said.
Princewill said he would work hard to turn the enormous potentials of the state into ‘Dubai of Niger Delta’ and affect the lives of the people positively.
He regrets that the state is slipping back to the inglorious days when in 2007, “violence, kidnappings, politics of bitterness and ethnic divisions have re-emerged and the peace we all enjoyed is flickering like a candle in the wind,” he said.
The governorship aspirant said he will not tow the path of people who use a manifesto to deceive others. “One of principles I’ve learnt is to first understand the people, then to be understood. That is why in 2012, we carried out a baseline survey of the wants and needs of Rivers people across almost 200 communities in the 23 LGAs of Rivers state, asking people what they feel about the government, the gaps they see in service delivery and what they would like done differently. The results and my team’s idea of effective solutions is the framework from which a roadmap for the renewal of Rivers state has emerged. This is the first of its kind by a civilian”.
He said he does not want to stand aloof as a mere observer or retiring from politics and facing his businesses. But feels that he would touch the lives of greater number of people if he acquires political power than as private business man no matter how hard he tries.
“I have thought long and hard over these two options. Even though I have worked for the men and women of the state and beyond in my own little way, the inability to satisfy a huge number of them, even when my own prosperity is put at risk has left me feeling that I’m best facing me and my family’s troubles, attending to my aged father, my disabled son, my beautiful wife and my other lovely children. If I don’t take care of me and mine, will anybody else bother?”.
“The answer in my heart and in my head is Team Prince Will. That is why I have thought long and hard and I have now decided to, in spite of the challenges ahead, tell you today that I will run for the esteemed office of the Governor of Rivers state under the platform of the PDP.
He said in the days and the weeks ahead, he will be collecting his nomination form, unveiling his roadmap for the renewal of Rivers state and introducing his campaign team to the world at their new state of the art office in Port Harcourt on Aba Road.

  1. My good people of Rivers State, do we prefer to rule by tugs because he is from our tribe IKWERRE? Even by zoning Wike is not supposed to come out. Recall what happened in PDP sect. in Abuja last week when he used tugs to pursue other members. Plz let us vote wisely.
