The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State, Chief Vita Abba, on Saturday resigned from the office in order to contest the 2015 general elections.
It was learnt that Abba, who was among a number of politicians that nursed the ambition to succeed Governor Sullivan Chime before the emergence of a lawmaker, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as the party’s consensus gubernatorial candidate in Enugu State, will be seeking election into the House of Representatives.
Abba’s resignation letter, which was dated October 20, was read and accepted at the PDP State Executive Committee meeting in Enugu on Saturday.
A communiqué signed by the publicity secretary, Enugu State PDP, Dr. Okey Eze, said Chief Ikeje Asogwa was appointed as the new chairman of the party, in line with article 47 (6) of the PDP Constitution.
Asogwa was a former chairman of the party in Enugu State.
The communiqué also disclosed that the Enugu State PDP executive committee commended Abba “for his meritorious and selfless service to the party and wished him well in his future endeavors.”
Also, the committee “unanimously adopted Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the consensus governorship candidate of the party for the 2015 governorship election in Enugu State,” according to the communiqué.
The communiqué added that the meeting deliberated extensively on several issues on how to move the party forward for the challenges ahead. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
