A leader of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Chief Ayo Akande, has said that the APC would win the 2015 presidential elections if the party picks Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as its presidential candidate and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, as the running mate.
Akande, who said this in a statement on Thursday, described a Buhari/Fashola ticket as the “best option” for the party because of their good antecedents.
Though the APC, he said, had many options for its presidential and vice presidential candidates, the party chieftain said the combination of Buhari and Fashola would be the perfect option to seize power from the PDP in the presidential election.
Buhari on Wednesday had declared his ambition to run for the post of the president on the platform of the APC.
If he emerges the APC candidate, the former military ruler will be contesting the presidency for the fourth time.
He contested against ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003 on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party and against the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua in 2007, also on the platform of the ANPP. In 2011, he was also the presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change.
Both the ANPP and CPC merged with the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria to become the APC.
Fashola has been the governor of Lagos State since 2007.
Jonathan has been endorsed as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2015 poll.
Akande, who noted that the Buhari/Fashola ticket was his personal suggestion, said corruption would be effectively curbed in the country while poverty would be drastically reduced to the barest level if the APC considers the option.
He said, “A Buhari/Fashola combination stands to offer lot of advantages. We all know Buhari as a man of good virtue, who did not corruptly enrich himself. The APC stands a better chance to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan who has been endorsed as the sole candidate of the PDP for the 2015 presidential election.
“A Buhari/Fashola team would give the Peoples Democratic Party a good fight in the presidential elections.
“The antecedents of Buhari as a military head of state in terms of war against indiscipline and corruption and Fashola’s self-discipline and accountability would give the APC the long-sought exalted seat of the president of the country.”
Akande also commended Fashola’s achievements in Lagos, saying that he deserved a higher responsibility, having performed well as governor for eight years.
“Fashola will make a good president but if the presidency is zoned to the North, then he will make a perfect running mate to Buhari,” he said. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Akande if you are myopic your parochial analysis of Muslim - Muslim ticket will not fly. Nigerias politics is deeply influenced by ethno-religious sentiment. Remember, this is not 1992 this is 2014. Any attempt to use Muslim to Muslim ticket will meet its waterloo....
ReplyDeleteGod forbid. Twill not happen. I reject it. I wud rather PDP win without GEJ dan dis two political thieves
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult to understand the reasoning behind your statement.
DeleteFirstly, PDP has endorsed GEJ. Secondly, records do not show any indictment of Buhari and Fashola.
In conclusion to your statement: I don't see a forbidden thing there. I personally think, they persons with proven character. The values they stand for is written all over them.
The next most important question is: What do Nigerians (70% illiterates; 1% powerful; 95% "what will be, will be"; 5% toothless bulldog; <1% radicals/extremist; etc) want/deserve & what do they stand getting?
If you win the sentiment of the masses, using the resources of the powerful 1% located both home & abroad. Only then, do you have a near-certain chance of success.
Your analysis is superb. Let's pray the 70% are led by their heads and not their stomach.
DeleteGood reasoning @ anonymous 11:33 am
DeleteMuslim/Muslim ticket will surely fail, they can try it. Do you want to Islamize Nigeria??
ReplyDeleteDid they islamise nig when they hard musl as presidents? Clear ur eye my bros.
DeleteOnly God can save dis country frm sellfish nd reckless leaders who refuse 2 put her citizens first nd foremost as God honoured mankind nd always sensitive 2 our feelgs than anyother thg. How wld any right thinkg citizen of a country fold his/her watch nd overlook thgs fall apart d way Nig's fallg. As for Fashola, Nigerians 've seen servg wth strength nd might even humility nd equality. Fashola wants 2 be rememberd 4 good name nd fear of God, but who's Buhari workg 4, for Nig nd Nigerians as a whole? Military / Civilian nd fail 2 rrealise dat there'r ten thousands of those who're even more qualified nd afraid 2 be robbed into dis evil nd money tasty leaders who're ready 2 do everythg within their powers 2 be in positn of leadership. I expect as an honest leader who all it takes 2 lead dis country, in person Buhari, he ought 2 have relaxed nd be in a position as an adviser 2 lead new generatn of honest nd well intendg youth 2 produce new nd disciplined leaders wth good intention.of movg dis great country 2 new platform. I'm nt sayg out present leaders re doing well at all but dat old leaders shld guide new leaders, usg ur past wrongs 2 get these new sets frm past errors. Nigeria's for us all nd only consciencous nd coordinated nd articulated disciplined men nd women re qualified 2 be in position of leadership, I mean men of good records; past, present nd future. Nigeria must be democratised if dis country would move. God bless nigerian.
ReplyDeleteAPC we are waiting for you to please make Fashola Buharis running mate Jonathan will not need to campaign he will sleep and win the election. Shabi you ran to Daddy GO condemning what was on the Tape we already know your agenda it will not work come you from far places it shall be broken in peices .Boko Haram Sponsors that want to islamitis Nigeria. On the content of the tape we stand you can not fool us
ReplyDeleteA trial will confuse them
ReplyDeleteAS FAR AS CHRISTIANS ARE CONCERNED, APC WILL FAIL WOEFULLY IF THEY TRY MUSLIM/MUSLIM TICKET. IF YOU CHECK VERY WELL ON REALITIES ON THE GROUND AND NOT NIGERIAN MANIPULATED CENSUS, YOU WILL KNOW THAT WE HAVE MORE CHRISTIANS THAN MUSLIMS IN NIGERIA AND SOME PEOPLE ARE HERE TRYING TO ABUSE THE RIGHT OF CHRISTIANS. ANY APC MUSLIM/MUSLIM TICKET WILL MAKE CHRISTIANS BELIEVE VERY WELL THAT IT IS AN ISLAMIC PARTY AND THINK OF WHEN YOU DON'T GET VOTE OF CHRISTIANS..........FAILURE.
ReplyDeleteI will vote for GEJ and not APC therefore, they should stop wasting their time because the minds of many Nigerians' is for GEJ for now, APC should stop parading themselves as the Messiah to fix the problems of Nigeria, our eyes are wild open, ignorance in the past cannot close it again, I say a big CONGRATULATIONS!!! to GOODLUCK JONATHAN in advance, is the man in the mind of Nigerians for now.
ReplyDeleteSee them selfish christians and who told u that christians are more dan muslims abeg go chck stats well..I support muslim muslim...N.E u must publish this
ReplyDeleteI am a Christian but I like Fashola and I think almost everybody likes him in Nigeria due to his behavior. Moreover, Muslims in south are civilized and live peacefully with their Christian brothers thus Fashola may defeat Goodluck Jonathan in south. Therefore, I will advise APC to look for a way to use fashola either as the president but if it is zoned to the north, they should use a northern Christian as president and fahola as the vice. If you have to win, those big dudes should sacrifice their ambitions else it will still be the same old stories of oppositions.
ReplyDeleteGood point Northern Christian with fashola stands a better chance. Don't think Buhari is a good choice.
DeleteOn point! But the truth remains that selfishness and desperacy will never allow Buhari to see this glaring truth. It is quite obvious that the present situation in Nigeria can never favour a Muslim-Muslim ticket. Buhari will never be a saint in the eyes of all. His threats and harsh comments always point out to people like me that this man may not be as gentle as his cronies want us to believe. Anyway you guys need to begin to accept that we want Jonathan to go for another tenure, before Fashola comes,if he will. As for Buhari,if 3 failed attempts has not convinced him that Nigeria does not wat him again, maybe a fourth one will. He is an accident waiting to happen.
DeleteIt is Buhari/ Fashola ticket and not necessarily muslim/ muslim one. We need progress and stop being religious bigotic. Do you see Fashola islamizing Lagos? Or if Buhari is for islamization is he not suppose to have started from his personal drivers and cooks who are xtains? If a good xtain is afraid of being turned into a muslim then he has no faith. Is Ayo Akande the proposer here not a xtain? Please let behave like Americans for once and change the ruling party and expect better result. Forget religion please because the equation of religion plus politics is UNGODLY. Moreover Nigerians only attends mosque and churches but are not religious.
ReplyDeleteLovely and reasonable comments from you.
DeleteWhat a good combination! Moral courage and determination / Agility and intelligence is what I personally see in a Buhari/Fashola ticket. That am a christian does not means my reasoning is retarded so as to forget so soon how fellows that left the prison could exponentially get so wealthy, how those that once had no shoes could become so rich as to be scared of declaring their assets even at the expense of their constitutional obligation.
DeleteIt is unfortunate that Madam due process has not offered herself and may not be ready to serve the nation in that capacity, but since the demise of Dorah, I think she is the only woman that should be preparing herself, either for Vice President or Senate President and eventually President. (Madam if you are not comfortable with my views, then am sorry, but it is actually my candid opinion, since you can come out to speak for the voiceless parents far away Chibok and indeed any right thinking nigerian even in the face of coordinated intimation).
If only Buhari knows how much the thieving elites hate his guts, he would opt to go quietly back to village in Daura and enjoy a cool retirement. They would rather that the country goes to the dogs than for him to be head of state!
ReplyDeleteIf by chance he wins the election, the fate that befell Balarabe Musa as governor of Kaduna State, will surely befall him. These rampaging gluttons at the National Assembly will not waste time in kicking him out.
So this agenda of muslim/muslim ticket is real. we shall see.
ReplyDeleteI laugh in pigeon english! Old fools wastin der stolen money! APC wil fail woefully religious freaks! Mak I see hw dem wan tak win come 2015! Muslim muslim my ass! If dy lik let dem use d pope as der presidential candidate! Is GEJ all D way! Almajiries makin noise
