Veteran Journalist, Dimgba Igwe dies

Veteran journalist, and associate publisher of Entertainment weekly newspaper, Dimgba Igwe, is dead.

‎The late journalist, who was one of Nigeria’s most respected newspapermen, died after being hit by a car Saturday morning while jogging on his street in the Okota area of Lagos.

He was rushed to hospital after the accident but pronounced dead on arrival. Confirming the death of Mr. Igwe, the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Femi Adeshina ‎, described the death of the late journalist as shocking. “Yes it’s true. He was my boss, he was my mentor, I feel his devastated about his death. This time last week, we were together at the NGE conference only to find out about his death this morning,” Mr Adeshina, who is also the Editor-in-Chief of Sun Newspaper, said.

Efforts to reach Mike Awoyinfa, the late journalist’s best friend and colleague for several years, were unsuccessful. His telephone lines ‎were unreachable. Aged 58, Mr. Dimgba, alongside Mike Awoyinfa, pioneered the now rested Weekend Concord newspaper, The Sun Newspaper and co-authored several books including Osoba: The Newspaper Years, The Arts of Feature Writing and Mike Adenuga: The Business Guru. The veteran journalist, until his death, was the Assistant General overseer of Evangel Pentecostal Church‎, Lagos.‎
