The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has said the strike action embarked on by the 104 Unity Schools will continue until otherwise directed by the union.
This is coming on the heels of a tripartite committee set up by the Federal Government to liaise with the budget office. This is said to be a consideration for paying the promotion arrears, outstanding salaries and allowances of staff of the Federal Ministry of Education estimated at N1.8bn.
A statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the ASCSN’s Secretary-General, Mr. Alade Lawal, said the committee was set up at the end of the marathon meeting presided over by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.
The meeting convened by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity to resolve the impasse had therefore been adjourned till Thursday, October 2, 2014 to review the situation.
Members of the committee were drawn from ASCSN, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and that of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Lawal said, “I want to assure the teeming members of ASCSN at the Headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspectorate Departments and the 104 Federal Unity Colleges that the strike continues until directed otherwise.”
ASCSN’s strike has paralysed activities at the Federal Ministry of Education, Inspectorate Departments and the 104 Federal Unity Colleges throughout the country for the past one week.
The association had declared a strike action following what it described as the failure of the Federal Government to pay members their outstanding salaries and promotion arrears as well as other entitlements amounting to about N1.8bn.
Lawal said, “The issues in dispute include but not limited to non-payment of outstanding promotion arrears for 2007-2010 and the balance of 2011 promotion arrears; promotion arrears for 2012-2013 and unpaid salaries to some staff for July, August, September, and October 2013;
“Others are end-of-year incentives; non-payment of 1st 28 days in lieu of hotel accommodation; 2010 mandatory training allowance, repatriation allowance, Duty Tour Allowance, and non-placement of promoted officers, among others.”
The ASCSN said the Federal Ministry of Education had admitted receiving N1.8bn this year from the Federal Government to settle all outstanding liabilities including salaries and allowances. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Please, the federal ministry if education should pay this money to the staff concerned since they have received it. This is seriously affecting students in federal unity schools especially those preparing for WAEC and NECO exam next year. A lot of their time has been wasted and their overstay at home is not too good. The minister should resolve this now. Enough is enough
