Politics, not a do-or-die affair - El-Rufai

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, counseled the Nigerian political elite to see politics as a service to the people and not a do-or-die affair as being currently witnessed in the nation.

El-Rufai also affirmed his commitment to ‘issue based politics,’ asking politicians to play the game according to the rules.

The former minister spoke in Kafanchan where he addressed his campaign coordinators from the Southern part of Kaduna State preparatory to his declaration for the governorship race ahead of the 2015 polls.

Asked on his readiness for the party governorship primary in the state ahead of the 2015 polls, the former Minister noted that politics was all about service and working practically to achieve cogent development for the common good and not a do–or-die affair.

He urged politicians across the country to focus on development rather than seeing politics as a tool for personal aggrandizement, noting that he was out for the governorship of Kaduna State to re-build a new Nigeria and Kaduna State.

According to the former Minister, Nigerians must demand effective representation from elected representatives and cogent infrastructural development, transparency and leadership that would be accountable to the citizenry.
