Ohanaeze to APC - 'You have 48 hours to apologise to Ihejirika'

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing on Sunday threatened to label the All Progressives Congress an ‘anti-Igbo political party’ if it fails to apologise to former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, within 48 hours.

The threat, which the Ohanaeze Youth Wing issued in a statement jointly signed by its National Secretary, Emmanuel Nnabuike, and Publicity Secretary, Obinna Adibe, followed the APC’s demand for Iherjika’s prosecution over alleged sponsorship of the Boko Haram sect.

The APC demanded Ijejirika’s prosecution in the wake of claims made by Australian negotiator, Mr. Stephen Davies.

In the statement titled, ‘Ongoing Attempts To Brand Gen. Ihejirika a Boko Haram Sponsor’, the Ohanaeze youths described the negotiator’s claims as “spurious”.

The group expressed regrets that the APC did not bother to ascertain the veracity of his allegations before calling for Ihejirika’s prosecution.

Ohanaeze youths noted that Ihejirika deserved an apology from the APC since the Department of State Security has now absolved him of any involvement with Boko Haram.

It said, “It is on record that the same people trying to frame up Gen. Ihejirika are the same people who claimed they would make Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan, in the aftermath of the 2011 presidential election.

“We view the call for Ihejirika’s trial by the APC through its spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, without bothering to confirm the authenticity of the statement, as malicious and premeditated.

“Now that the Director of State Security has officially absolved Ihejirika of any complicity in the matter, we ask the APC to issue an apology to Gen. Ihejirika and Ndigbo within 48 hours.

“If they fail to do so, the APC shall be formally labeled an anti-Igbo party and other sanctions shall follow.”

Continuing, the group described Davies as a “fraudulent character and mercenary”.

It said, “Security is too weighty a matter to be politicised. Therefore it is unpatriotic for political leaders to embark on character assassination based on unsubstantiated and misguided rumours.

“Dr Stephen Davies has shown himself to be a fraudulent character and a mercenary, whose stock in trade is the distortion of information in order to cause chaos, thereby creating more business for him.”

Ohanaeze youth wing added that Davies employed “cheap propaganda tactics” by naming Ihejirika alongside former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, who has been consistently linked with the emergence and sponsorship of Boko Haram as the sect’s sponsor in order to lend credence to his claims in the eyes of “gullible members of the public”.

The group noted that Davies did not provide any evidence or motivation for Ihejirika, a Christian and an Igbo from the South East, to sponsor Boko Haram.

Further casting doubt on his claims, the group noted that his allegation that the Central Bank of Nigeria official who handled the funding of Boko Haram was an uncle to three of the Nyanya bombing suspects was equally disproved by the DSS.

“It is uncharitable for Nigerians to reward someone who laid down his life in defence of his country by associating him with the sponsorship of the sect,” it said.

    3. @AnonymousSeptember 7, 2014 at 10:02 PM- as much as I'm not in support of the baseless points raised by this shallow-minded individual I also disagree with you claims that the individual must be a Yoruba man. This is also baselesss and myopic . So if the Yorubas hate the Igbos so much, how about the Hausas-they love the igbos right? I am a Yoruba man and I'm 100% in support of the Ohanaeze Youth wing and I am also of the opinion that APC is pro Boko Haram and antiprogressive. All their claims are just to cover the truth so as to mislead gullible Nigerians

  8. Every reasonable person should simply tell the government to investigate all these allegations and even the allegations levelled against other political leaders in the country, whether they are in PDP or APC or from North or South. They should make their findings known to the citizens of our country. We should stop defending people when investigations has not been carried out. It's just an allegation and it doesn't make Ihejirika or any other person a culprit until proper investigation is carried out.

  9. Can we all think?

Firstly, it is the PDP led government that engaged the Australian guy to investigate BH sponsors and NOT APC!

The report was written by a non-nigerian and i believe all nigerians should be tired of the wantom killings of nigerians in the north.

What do you expect? that the guy will name non-nigerians as sponsors of BH?

Also remember, the late Security Adviser to GEJ once said that BH is a PDP problem and after wards was killed under questionable circumstances in Bayelsa?

The President has also alluded to the fact that BH is in his government......whoever is named should be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted if found wanting/guilty, enough of this gullibility by poor nigerians that are always been used as pawns under the guise of ethnic brotherhood and its a pity that the ibos (who are always the guinea pig will still be playing cheap politics at this moment)

All hands must be on deck to tame BH as they are already running over some cities in Borno.....Nigerian youth, please think before it is too late!!!!!

  10. how do you mean, Davies said he was never hired by the president. All these accusation from APC is a desperation to clear there name with boko haram. They know that 2015 is at the corner and nigerians has known and recognition them as BH sponsors. We know who defended BH and compare them with niger-delta militants. We know how they tried to stop the emegency rule. APC, your body language has given you away as the sponsors of BH.
