Obanikoro berates APC over murder allegation

The Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has berated the All Progressives Congress for linking him with the murder of a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Azeez Asake.

The Lagos State chapter of the APC had in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, accused two men, Ade Lawyer and Olokodona, of killing Asake, who is a member of the APC. It added that the assailants were loyalists of the minister.

Following Asake’s killing, his supporters were said to have embarked on a revenge mission, killing two others in Ebute Ero.

However, Obanikoro, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Media and Strategy, Ohimai Amaize, said the minister knew nothing about the incident.

He said, “For the record, Senator Obanikoro emphatically disclaims the APC’s statement as neither he nor any of his supporters has any connection with the murder of Alhaji Azeez Asake in any shape or form.

“In defiance basic logic, Joe Igbokwe the storyteller, in a figment of his own imagination, wants the world to believe that after a successful mega PDP rally in Lagos on Saturday, where no single bullet was fired, PDP supporters then proceeded to murder an APC member.

“Without prejudice to ongoing investigations by relevant security agents, it is dishonourable, distasteful and callous that those who owe Lagosians an explanation over the murder of Asake are the ones pointing accusing fingers at others.”

Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, has said only Asake was killed in the area. Braide said the other two that were attacked survived the attack and were recovering at a hospital.

“The two other people did not die but were shot and they are recuperating at a hospital. Investigations are ongoing,” she said.
