Head coach of the Nigeria national team Stephen Keshi has revealed that he invited Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche for Saturday’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Congo but that the 32-year-old turned down the invitation SuperSports understands.
Keshi famously left out the forward from his list of players that represented Nigeria at the 2014 Fifa World Cup despite widespread calls for his inclusion.
The Nigeria coach has now revealed that he invited the forward for the upcoming Afcon qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.
“Well, Ikechukwu Uche his name was originally on the list (for both games) but he said he needed somebody to speak with him, maybe to beg him or something before he can come.
“And I said I cannot do that so I had to change Ike with somebody else,” Keshi told journalists during a press conference in Calabar.
Nigeria will now face Congo in Calabar without the striker. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Keshi u are too arrogant, d guy deserved an unreserve apologies after all u did to him. Call him and beg him super eagle is not ur estate it' Nigeria project like Uche is one d Nigeria best striker at d moment if not even d best. Let Nigeria football lover call Keshi to order.
ReplyDelete@ OLA please you don't know what you are saying. don't post comments when you don't know what to say. thanks
DeleteKeshi, if you were in his shoes, will you honor the invitation after being left of an important tournament. You want go back and eat what you vomited.
ReplyDeleteKeshi can be a comedian sometimes and he can be so very predictable. Since the World Cup list was released, I knew he would invite him for this Afcon qualifiers. IK Uche was even very nice to have sought for apologies, if I were him, I wouldn't even concede to the President's apology, it's a NO NO. Keshi might be a good coach but he is a very petty and vindictive human being.
ReplyDeleteKeshi is an arrogant person since the time of clement westerhof, just the way he behaved then to coaches but fills bad when the players now do same to him. If i were IK Uche, i will not play for Nigeria again that does not mean am not patriotic. How can Keshi think of using him now as a spare tyre in a car.
ReplyDeleteKeshi is too arrogant for my liking, how do you expect IK uche to just accept ur invitation like that.. After he was left out of an important tournament like World cup.. You now want to use him as spare tyre... Keshi is too proud.. If you were in the same calibre with them Jose Mourioh of chelsea, you will not allow us to hear words in Naija o.. But God pass you..
ReplyDeleteThis guy Keshi is annoying
ReplyDeleteKeshi should go and search for good local strikers. I'm sure there are loads of good players ready to do us proud if not for football politics..as anonymous 10:25 has said, why do go on a long (FIFA) journey leaving ur good tyre behind only to bring it out to test your local roads...if Uche was younger I would understand ..it's an insult!
ReplyDeleteOYA! BIG BOSS OVER TO U!
ReplyDeleteI think the onus is on Ike to prove his worth in and out of the pitch. This stance of his may very well limit his exposure and career.
ReplyDeleteI personally dont see any reasons why u guys r mountin blames on Keshi. He culdnt possibly select everybody and so he left Uche out. Callin Uche means Keshi still honors him so why criticize Keshi? Uche shuld knw dat there are many good players out there, the team can do well without him, the boss is always the boss and we need to respect that.
ReplyDeleteFoolish boss, how can he drop uche and went for Amobi!!!!
ReplyDeleteBoss is Boss my feet. That young man deserves some respect! after all he contributed to Nigerian football only to be dropped in the biggest stage..which striker do you have that is better ..Keshi should suck his pride in and create a perfect working relationship with his subordinates. Common mehn someone is supposed to have learnt from the world cup...(Keshi stop bullying your players biko)
