Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), said the commission would soon introduce “Flying Ticket Policy’’ to penalise traffic offenders.
He stated this at a conference organised for unit commanders of the commission on Thursday in Abuja.
“We are going to introduce flying tickets for traffic offenders which will enable our men and other road users to be able to report offenders by providing concrete evidence to us for prosecution. From Left: FRSC Corps Legal Adviser, Mr Chidi Nwachukwu, FRSC Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi, and Ex FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Osita Chidoka at the Senate Public Hearing on New Number Plate and Driver's Licence Scheme of the Commission in Abuja on Tuesday (27/3/12). “The picture of traffic offenders can be taken with mobile phone or any device that has camera.
“What we need is the number plate of the vehicle and may be the picture of the driver, time and location.
“Once they send these data to our site or telephone number, we will search for the vehicle through Auto Reg. Data Bank and send the fine to the offenders.
“We are almost concluding on getting the necessary approval as we are still consulting with stakeholders and standard organisation of Nigeria (SON) to agree on speed limit,’’ he said.
Oyeyemi said the fine could be as much as N50, 000 for anyone found guilty of the offence in order to serve as deterrence to others.
The corps marshal also called on its officers and men to be more dedicated to duty in order to reduce road crashes and fatalities in the country.
According to him, the 15 per cent and 25 per cent reduction in road crashes and fatalities respectively which the commission targeted to achieve by the year 2020 must be realised.
He said: “The unit commanders are the first line officers, hence, the need for them to be properly briefed on the objectives of the corps for efficient performance.
“It is our duty to crash the volume of crashes on our roads so that casualties will be highly reduced; we hope to get the full cooperation of stakeholders.
“We have been recording success in that direction but we still need to do more.
Our units will be more equipped with operational needs like vehicles, protective devices among others.’’ (NAN) Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Many of this people in public sector lack knowledge, the explanation here regarding capturing offender with "any device with camera" does not make a single sense, this is a big hole for corruption, the camera that will capture offender in the act should be a road traffic mounted camera that takes required data of all vehicles passing and as well takes photos of over speeding cars with plate numbers. Such is used in countries arround the world. Not the one that a government official will take someones photo and plate number and be treathening for bribe, that is the kind of situation this so called frsc senseless boss wants to put Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteUseless idea. Put road signs and speed limits on the roads with road cameras first before any flyer tickets.
ReplyDeleteAnother avenue for FRSC officers to escalate bribe collection on the road. The withdrawal of Policemen from mounting checkpoints have open the doors for FRSC nationwide to brazenly intimidate, threaten and extort money from road users on the flimsiest of excuse. The FRSC Officers on the AJAH - EPE Express Way are worse. They have a register for Sand Tippers and Lorry Drivers plying the road and openly collect their tolls from these drivers and motorist instead of ensuring safe driving practices by motorist. Everyone driving on this road will bear withness and the irony of it all is that they have a Zonal Office in Sango-Tedo Area and everyday a minimum of one vehicle accident occur on this road and mostly fatal.
ReplyDeleteIntroducing this unrealistic method of road offender vehicle capturing with mobile camera by its men is like giving an open book for its men to blackmail vehicle owners into high heaven. The appropriate thing that would have been done similar with advance countries we intend to emulate is to install a govt approved and certified cameras in strategic locations that are known for gross traffic violations and capture offenders.
the FRSC have grossly deviated from the intended visions of its founding fathers into another cesspool of corruption infested government organization.
