The Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmed Fintiri, has said that only God will decide on whether or not he will contest the February 28, 2015 governorship election in the State.
The acting governor spoke with journalists after he visited the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu in Abuja on Wednesday.
Fintiri said his plan now was how to win the October 11, 2014 governorship by-election in which he is the candidate of the party.
He said, “Only God will determine my fate in 2015, but let me say that my preoccupation now is how to win the October 11 bye-election. After that, we will face the new challenge.”
Fintiri said he enjoyed the support of all 13 aspirants who contested with him in the PDP primaries last week.
It will be recalled that the national leadership of the party said last week that it would enforce its decision that restricted the governorship of Adamawa State to Adamawa Central Senatorial District by 2015.
Apart from this, it said that Fintiri would not be allowed to contest the February 2015 governorship election in the State because of an agreement he had entered into with the party.
The National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo had stated this in a brief interview with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said that none of the 14 aspirants who signed the agreement last week was coerced to do so.
Fintiri, he added, voluntarily signed the document which agreed that the next governor of the state in next year’s poll would emerge from Adamawa Central Senatorial District.
The Acting Governor is from Adamawa North Senatorial District.
On Finitiri’s insistence to contest against the wish of the party, Oladipo said: “No, no, no, he will not. Whoever wins now will not contest. I can assure you of that.”
He averred that as Secretary of the Committee that brokered the agreement with the contestants, they won’t go back on their words.
