The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said that his loss at the Saturday election is due to the malpractices perpetrated by a former Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state.
Omisore, who said this in a statement on Monday, claimed that although the REC was replaced shortly before the election, he had done enough damage to ensure victory for Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress.
He expressed gratitude to the people of the state who supported him and who showed him love before, during and after the election.
Aregbesola was declared the winner of the poll with a total votes of 394, 684 while Omisore came second with 292,747 votes.
The PDP candidate in a statement he entitled “We lost a battle…but the war for the soul of Osun is still on,” said he was aware of the odds against him even before he joined the Osun State governorship election race.
He said, “It was not a race we came into unmindful of some of the odds stacked against us. For instance, we had a situation where a clearly partisan Resident Electoral Commissioner had opened the entire electoral system to our opponent from registration stage through data storage to personnel loading.
“Though the leadership of INEC eventually took him out of the state weeks to the elections, he already did a lot of harm in the system that would take years to rectify.
“In spite of this and the fact that all democratic structures in the state are in the hands of our opponent, our supporters despite harassment from my opponent, still fought gallantly in every polling unit in the state to achieve the result we posted in this election.”
He said he saw a people who were traumatised and brutalised psychologically by the current administration but added that he would continue to be at the forefront to fight to ensure that the people of the state had the dividends of democracy.
Omisore said, “Let it be known that our people would no longer be taken for granted as we have opened the floodgate of democratic challenge which no force on earth can stop.
“I shall be at the forefront as our people keep to press for the real dividends of democracy and the expansion of the democratic space in our dear state.
“In the meantime, the party situation office is presently analysing the results of the elections against field reports and we shall be making public our findings and take appropriate steps accordingly. I, however, appeal to all our supporters to remain calm, law-abiding and peace-loving.”
Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the PDP has said the party will take its complaints to the election petition tribunal.
This was part of the resolution reached after an “extraordinary” meeting of the party in Osogbo, on Monday.
A leader of the party, Chief Ojo Williams, moved a motion that the Osun governorship election was marred with fraud and irregularities and that the Osun PDP should reject it in totality. The motion was seconded by Alhaji Halidu Tiamiyu.
The communique which was signed by the PDP chairman in the state, Mr. Gani Olaoluwa, described the election as “robbery of the electorate.”
The communique said the PDP would contest the result until the peoples’ mandate was restored. Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

My honourable Senator,I think it will be more honourable if you just exhibit a spirit of sportsmanship & accept the results as it is. The first issue you raised about the former REC would have been more relevant if you had raised it before the election. Keeping quiet about it means you were ready to carry on with the situation. Someone had to win,it could have been you. Today you politicians have made elections a game without rules and everyone is aware they politics in Nigeria is no more a gentleman thing. Even we the electorates would have tried other alternatives if we had any. You politicians have done more harm to us & that explains why you people spend most of our money providing security for yourselves. So take heart & look for other ways to be of service to your people, cos that I think should be your primary objective.
ReplyDeleteGood talk.
DeleteYou are too much
DeleteEXCELLENT OBSERVATION MY FELLOW COUNTRY MAN AND BROTHER, LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING TO US IN YOBE AND BORNO WHILE PDP IS BUSY WITH ELECTION SECURITY WHILE WE ARE ALWAYS ON A RUN FOR OUR DEAR LIFE
Deletechristopher abara,God bless u for good talk.He is a thief.he said he would die if he did not win,now why not enter infront of a moving Trailer and die instantly. If Omisoore contest in Osun state in 100 times,he can only be accepted in his town.He can never gain unanimous acceptance bcos history will continue to tell the role he played in the death of Bola Ige.He can never be our governor becos he lacks OMOLUABI SPIRIT.
ReplyDeleteSenator, am happy you are accepted that the Governor is smarter than you. So there is no way he will not win the election. if I were you I will congratulate him now. Your party did everything for you to win they election but your people said no they don't want you because of your record so go and rest and accept defeat. You mustn't win the election.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Do u mind him. He is a joker. Becos the pdp abracadabra didn`t work in Osun as it did in Ekiti that`s why he`s talking jaz.He should also include in his so called petition what the thugs like obanikoro and chris uba who are non-indigines were doing in the state before and during the election at least to give it credence. UP A P C, UP OSUN. SHAME TO EKITI stomach infrastructure- aka hungry people.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, see this murderer&rubber o! @omisore, u av just confessed dat d election was marred wit the irregularities u&PDP planned, but despite all that, @ogebni still won, with all the votes u stole. I still wonder how u can have so much votes in 8 LGs, ile ife? APC shud please probe the election and query the result of omisore, i dnt believe it was possible. If APC fails to query this result, i will be disappointed! Let election be done 100x in Osun, Omisore can never win. Fayose said it b4 that Omisore cannot win an election, but he wished him luck.
ReplyDeleteThank God Omisore could only bear a testimony of shame. Shame on you sir. With all the support from Abuja you could not win. You have always won at your senatorial district and that should tell you the best you can become is a senator. If its true toy knew about Ige's death , then you can't be stable all thy life.
ReplyDeleteI HONESTLY don't know how this man can win, your Bingos in their multitude , could not do the magic. Every zone in the state- Ede/Iwo, Osogbo, IKirun/Iragbiji Ila, Okuku, Ilesa/Ibokun, aside Ife are against you. You must be joking. Your so called result must be probed because you don't merit it.
ReplyDeleteShut up already. Move on or kill yourself. See his opolo eyes. You will soon be compensated with a ministerial slot. Bola Ige's death will forever trail u.
